ivo really has some mental disadvantage over federer. it's not like he was playing worse during both sets. they were equal.

there was no reason why ivo should lose this match other than his head.

Federer def. Dr. Ivo 7-6,7-6

Well done from Fed- he looked a little shaky in the beginning but when it really counted he tightened the screws and came through in flying colours

Class showed in the end, Karlovic is just such a one trick pony.
And he was mentally fine, serving around 70% for the whole match.

Re: Federer def. Dr. Ivo 7-6,7-6

Ivo had a sp at 5-4* 40-30,but couldnt convert.he lost 8-6 in the TB,but had an pretty easy volley at 6-6 to get another sp.
Ivo saved 2 mp's at 6-7 4-5* (15-40),the second set TB was pretty one sided, only chance for Ivo were 2 serves at 4-5 down.

Great tournament for Ivo Congrats and he can be proud of how he played today.

Karlović played a lot better than in Montreal when he lost to Roger 6-7 6-7 as well.
Federer has proved once again that he is the king of tie-breaks, maybe the best tie-breaker in history.

Re: Who's tie-break king? Federer defeats Karlovic 7-6(6) 7-6(5)

Ivo was actually holding his own for a large portion of the baseline ralies and he also had some very successful forays into the forecourt.

In the end Roger's superior mental strength, variety and choice of shots enabled him to win the critical points in the tiebreak and seal the victory.

It was a very watchable match IMO
