Unhappy Michel Kratochvil announces his retirement

Here the text from SF (Swiss television):

briefly in English:
Kratochvil announced in Basel his retirement because he's suffering from another knee injury since Andrezieux. It would again have lasted several months until he would have been able to play again. He will be operated in November, his sixth operation on the left knee since 2003

Farewell Michel and good luck for the rest of your life

Re: Michel Kratochvil announces his retirement

Its a great shame, when I saw him coming up the rankings, I thought he could have been a very good player.

Just shows how unlucky some people are.

Oh no

I was so happy he came back this year, and I am grateful that I got to see him play again at Wimbledon against Marc López. This is really horrible for the guy

Good luck in your life after tennis, Michel

Sad news for Switzerland, Stan the man is left to carry their hopes on his own for the next few years.

All the best in your post-tennis life

Re: Michel Kratochvil announces his retirement

He was a runner-up at 2 events in 3 weeks, at Shanghai and Tokyo, in 2001, and it was a shame that he couldn't win an ATP Title. He reached the last 16 at Wimbledon in 2002, and during his 4th round match he was leading Henman by 2 sets to 1 at one stage I think.
Good luck to Michel with his life beyond tennis.

It's sad that a player who is only 28 must have retired from tennis

Re: Michel Kratochvil announces his retirement

Sad news for him and best wishes in his post-tennis career.

Wasn't he the next Federer before Federer came along?

Goes to show that for all the Federers and Nadals who make it, there's a bunch who get injured, get unlucky, and never manage it.

Re: Michel Kratochvil announces his retirement

This is sad. I kept hoping he would come back from all those injuries, he seemed so stylish.

Best twitter posts of the epic match:

@dougrobson - Whoever is supplying Mahut with hair gel needs to ink a sponsorship deal now.

@Wimbledon - FYI, with @Wimbledon live scoring devices, please add 50 to the games in the fifth set of the Isner v Mahut match.

@HolterMedia - Nice to see that a three-day test has come to tennis here @wimbledon.

I will always remember him as the only swiss I know who speaks such a good German (and I mean German German) that you could put him into Hamburg and wouldn't perceive he's actually Swiss. But don't put him with Swiss people! (Interpreters, where are you?? )

Re: Michel Kratochvil announces his retirement

All the best in retirement Michel, too bad serious injuries prevented him from achieving to the best of his abilities.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".
