Michael McClune, another talented young American

This kid is now ranked at 479 and is playing a futures this week. He is 6'1/6'2, and a goregeous all court game with a one hander. He also doesnt have an allergic reaction when advancing forward to the net.

This is merely the road report, as i havent had the chance to see him in person, but its sounding good. He won Kalamazoo a few months ago and just turned 18. Actually, hes about 3 months older than me

Since he lost to Chela in the USO 1st round, he's gotten to a futures SF, futures W, futures QF, SF, and 2nd round of a challenger, losing to DY 6-2, 6-4. These were all 5 weeks in a row, and hes playing now for a 6th straight week

The best thing about Mike (other than his fluid service motion) is that he is being coached by Brad Stine and not by the USTA system. Hopefully that means he will learn some real tennis. He recently turned pro and I think he could have a pretty bright future, but he needs to gain a few pounds of muscle.

(he has a thread in the Team USA forum )

Best twitter posts of the epic match:

@dougrobson - Whoever is supplying Mahut with hair gel needs to ink a sponsorship deal now.

@Wimbledon - FYI, with @Wimbledon live scoring devices, please add 50 to the games in the fifth set of the Isner v Mahut match.

@HolterMedia - Nice to see that a three-day test has come to tennis here @wimbledon.

DY had that problem as well, but hes looking more cut in recent events.

Roddick in his early days was skinny as well, but now hes beefy too

Saw him play when I was at Ojai a few years ago. I went out early but I remember he had an amazing year...

Re: Michael McClune, another talented young American

I have his autograph from the '06 US Open. I didn't recognize him...but after waiting an hour or more in the light drizzle of rain (yes - I was there THAT horrible weekend at the Open) I was willing to have young looking person in shorts sign my big tennis ball.

Rooting for: Roddick | Federer | Blake| Fish | Bryans | Gasquet | Querrey | Baghdatis | Verdasco | Kimmy
Missing: Andre | Safin | Women's tennis

Re: Michael McClune, another talented young American

this a photo of the guy:

I remember he have many (5 or more) Set Points at 3rd set vs Chela...wasted all and finally ChELIN closed in 3...
Chela talked about this match and said that Michael was vomiting (probably nervousism) during end of 2nd set... Chela said he relaxed at 3rd set () and this is because this set was very tough and have a TBreak...

Gustavo Marcaccio David Nalbandian Jo-Jo Tsonga Marcos Baghdatis

Good to see an American player being taught the intangibles and not just to serve big and just thump the ball time and time again.
