Easier than I thought against an awkward opponent.

I forgive you for Sunday, Andy.

On to the next challenge.

Nicely done, solid from start to finish, one of those, frankly rare, matches with little drama or hiccup of any kind from the Murray side - just what you want in a R1 encounter.

They were getting less and less rare toward the end of last year and the beggining of this year:

4 straight sets matches before facing Clement in Washington
3 straight sets matches before facing Neiminen in Toronto
3 straight sets matches before facing Nadal at the AO
3 straight sets matches before facing Haas at IW
3 straight sets matches before facing Robredo in Metz

Obviously the vast majority of tourneys he drops sets but the truth is he isn't a good enough player that he should be beating QF opponents in straights ALL the time.

Champions deserve whatever they win playing within the laws of the game

Good job, Andy!

Next up, Tipsarevic tomorrow and, if he gets through that, it's Steps in the quarters.

Andy will win against Janko. Tipsarevic is too inconsistent. However, Stepanek will be a tough opponent.

And Murray recently beat Tipsarevic so I think he can easily beat him again.

Andy beat hotlips at Wimby 05 when he was only just turned 18, so hopefully he can do it again. Assuming of course that he beats Tipsarevic first! Inconsistant, yes, but he can beat very good players on his day.

You do have a good point. I read (don't remember where) that Tipsarevic was supposed to be a big tennis star judging by his raw talent (his early years). Nobody was talking about Djokovic at that time in Serbia. However, Novak was training and working very hard to improve his game. Tipsarevic was more interested in having fun, he never wanted to live and train outside of Serbia. Kinda interesting story. Look at them now. It shows you that hard work does pay off at the end.

At some point Tipsarevic was even #1 ranking junior in the world, as far as I know. That fact alone would be enough to put all your hopes on the guy anywhere in the world. Besides, Novak was still a kid in Germany at that time (3 yrs younger than T.), and NOT that he hadn't got any talent (which might be construed from your post). In my opinion, the true morale is: don't think of yourself as a star too early too much, it could fire back.
