Gulbis wins Belgium, Up to #46 in world

the ascension has begun. He rolled through a strong field in the Mons Challenger last week, beat Vliegen 7-5, 6-3 in the final. Surged from 57 to 46.

He has Youzhny in the first round in Moscow this week. Should be a thriller.

I dislike how players can move into the top fifty by playing challengers..

Peter Polansky
Nestor - Chvojka - Pospisil - Raonic - Peliwo

Good stuff for Gulbis and he may well be one of those guys that can beat anyone one day and lose to Bilbo's grandad the next.

Champions deserve whatever they win playing within the laws of the game

maybe for a few more months. After that he'll harness the power, play smarter tennis, and roll over everyone he's supposed to - and he plenty of players he's NOT "supposed to." (ie, Robredo).

For periods of time he can do so but players with such an attcking style always have dips to go with the highs of their game.

Gulbis has far more raw talent and power out of those two players so he should win.

that's why i put "shouldn't" in quotes. Because by rankings standards, he is the underdog.

From what I witnessed that night at the Open, Gulbis has more raw talent and power than anyone other than Federer and Fernando. Does that mean he "should" beat Djokovic, Nadal, and Davydenko, etc. head-to-head? Certainly not.

Should he beat Youzhny? YES SIR!
