Tokyo QF: Berdych def Verdasco 7-6(8) 4-6 7-5 in an outstanding match

Highly entertaining match with many ups and downs.

No breaks of serve for the 1st 8 games and then 4 breaks in a row as Verdasco failed twice to serve the set out.

Verdasco takes an injury timeout for his thigh and it restricts his movement initially, but he is fighting hard, hitting some great shots and some classic misses and takes the 2nd set.

Both were getting shocking calls and getting irritated with the antics of each other.

Verdasco hitting off paced serves and sliced backhands in addition to huge amount of clean winners. Berdych was striking the ball very well when he wasn't getting pissed off with the line calls.

In the 3rd set Berdych got a break for 2-1, then Verdasco levelled for 4-4. Verdasco saved 3 break points at 5-5 with clean winners.

Well done guys.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Expected scoreline. Now, can he avenge his Toronto 06 defeat? I say no, Richie isn't that tired

Too bad the stream fucked up at the end. Cause I couldn't hear what they said at the change of ends.

Verdasco fought so hard and hit so many great shots and credit to Berdych for keeping a high level throughout the match.

Time to take out Gasquet.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

What a match! Too bad one of them had to lose here, because they both played great tennis!
Nando with an injured thigh, but he kept fighting like a lion

Congrats to both!

Re: Tokyo QF: Berdych def Verdasco 7-6(8) 4-6 7-5 in an outstanding match

Verdasco hit around 38-40 forehand winners and around 28 backhand winners in this match.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Bad moment for Fer, coming so close yet again. But it sounds like he didn't crack under pressure like usual, and was rather outplayed. Am I right in saying this?

Filippo VOLANDRI, Pablo ANDUJAR, Yuki BHAMBRI, Fabio FOGNINI, Thomaz BELLUCCI,
Santiago GIRALDO, Donald YOUNG, Gael MONFILS, Juan Martin DEL POTRO, Alexandr DOLGOPOLOV

Re: Tokyo QF: Berdych def Verdasco 7-6(8) 4-6 7-5 in an outstanding match

This one could have gone either way and Verdasco is not the guy who want to close out a set serving for it, he is more likely to break to get a set and that was what he did in the 2nd set.

When Berdych served for it at 0-15, he was in control of the rally and went for a forehand drop shot that hit the tape and bounced on his side.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".
