UPDATE 1-Tennis-Fatigued Federer pulls out of Japan Open
Fri Sep 28, 2007 9:16am BST

TOKYO, Sept 28 (Reuters) - World number one Roger Federer has pulled out of next week's Japan Open due to fatigue.

Federer, who won the Tokyo title last year, said he had yet to recover after winning his fourth consecutive U.S. Open title and playing for Switzerland in the Davis Cup earlier this month.

"I am so disappointed that I have to withdraw from the Japan Open," Federer said in a statement.

"At this point I have still not physically recovered 100 percent from the U.S. Open and Davis Cup.

"Thus my doctor advised me that in an effort to avoid the risk of serious injury, I should not play a tournament for at least 10 days."

Federer's late pullout for the Oct. 1-7 Japan Open leaves world number eight David Ferrer as the tournament's highest seed following the Spaniard's late entry into the men's draw.

Wimbledon champion Venus Williams was also added to the women's draw on Friday.

Roger, Chiudi, Stan the Man, Michi, Timea, Swiss guys and girls

good luck RF!!

I guess people think that with any half-decent player in the draw, Blake isn't going to get near the trophy.

Re: Federer withdraws from Japan Open 2007 due to fatigue

Federer, Roddick and Blake aren't playing and Ferrer and Gasquet are replacing them, I think (?). But none of this is confirmed so that makes it confusing. They've got four wildcards allocated to Japanese players.

If so, is this the first time so many top players were replaced with other top players with none of them being awarded wildcards? And if so, were the ATP desperately looking for replacements like they do in the WTA sometimes. I think I remember Mauresmo being upset about them asking her to play in an event when a lot of the top women withdrew last year.

Blake has not officially withdrawn (but I think he will).
Where did you hear about Haas? Ferrer and Gasuquet's participation has been confirmed by the official site and some wire news stories.

Ferrer will also replace Federer in the open practice session originally planned for Fed and Kei Nishikori on Sunday.
I think two of the four WCs will go to Nishikori and Iwabuchi because their photos have been on the official site for a long time although their names are not on the entry list.
Maybe Suzuki and Soeda will get the other two?

It was on the official site and was posted on the entry list section of MTF (saying the same thing), but on second thoughts, the site is probably mistaking him for Berdych.
