Re: Kiefers injury?

I believe that's an excuse for getting out of doubles. With rain screwed up the singles schedule.

Re: Kiefers injury?

Hard to say what it really is from the distance. He said that he already was bothered by it during his singles and thus was glad to win in two sets because his level of play wasn't good and he won it solely relying on some fighting skills, and he wasn't sure if he came out as a winner in a three-set match. My first thought as I saw the scoreboard result was "damn, looked like a shaky match" because I thought that Lu had quite a few too many chances to break and actually used two.

But such excuses to pull out of doubles exist of course, no question.

Carlos --- C'MON Lleyton!!! --- Kiwi!!! --- Jürgen --- Juan

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

Re: Kiefers injury?

That's the price to play for tournament directors wanting singles players to play doubles. Doubles will always be the last priority and players will withdraw with whatever excuses if it hinders their singles. Honestly, can't really blame the singles players.

Re: Kiefers injury?

Yes, and with Rainer and Kiwi it is singles orientated players who pair up for doubles to increase their singles play and overall playing experience. So if somebody gets something little which bothers him, or if they are not in the mood to play, they don't think twice about it because their preference is the singles competition. That's how it is in many cases when you don't have a firm doubles team.

Kiefer retired against Rochus after losing serve twice.

Re: Kiefers injury?

So that's not an excuse after all.
