General Questions about Andreev

I've never seen him play.

Is he any good? Or are we like, never going to hear from him again?

Thanks

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Re: General Questions about Andreev

Conan has been impressed by what he has seen this week. Andreev certainly has variety in shots and deceptive power.

But that makes it all the more hard for Conan to fathom the 7 match losing streak he had from Scottsdale through to Rome.

Maybe he's just a bit of a basketcase?

Re: General Questions about Andreev

Maybe, but Andreev has handled himself well this week. Maybe it's simply because he is Russian and they are prone to these ups and downs!

Re: General Questions about Andreev

Perhaps it's a Russian thing, yes. He has done well to take advantage of the opportunities presented to him this week, that's for sure. Who does he play next?

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Also clay isnt his best surface.
he's hardly won a match on clay until here and now 4th rd

he's big, strong, good on both sides, and a bit loopy
sound familiar

Re: General Questions about Andreev

Well, he moves pretty fast! Has good serve & forehand! Prefers to hit his forehand then backhand! Plays from the baseline!

I saw his match against Ljubicic in Moscow, and match against Ferrero!

Re: General Questions about Andreev

I think Andreev has a good chance against Gaudio, although I'd prefer to see the Argentinian win. If Andreev can let loose with his power game from the start, it won't be hard for him to demoralise his opponent and make a swift route to the quarters.

Re: General Questions about Andreev

I'm surprised he hasn't done well on clay before, I'd have thought that would be the only surface where he could get away with that amazingly extreme forehand grip of his, it's so Western it's almost in the Pacific (hmm, work on your puns Sjengster). As noted on Eurosport he's a very physical player who muscles the ball off both sides, good serve and a low, rasping grunt. I'm just hoping he'll be kind enough to lose in the next round and allow Gaudio through to his first ever Slam QF.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Re: General Questions about Andreev

Considering he spent 4 years in Spain, Andreev would have to be to good on clay, and he got most of his points last year on the challenger circuit and made a mark in the Russian tournaments last year and clay is his best surface.

If Andreev tries to run around a hit off forehands then that will be to Gaudio's strength and while I like Igor, a 4th round appearance is good enough this time around.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Thanks for the comments, everybody. They were helpful for somebody who likely won't be seeing any of this guy until she goes to the USO

Re: General Questions about Andreev

He has a similar face to Svet...

Tennis Mag M: Which players do you prefer to watch on ATP ?

A.Myskina: I love to watch Roger Federer. He's a great player. All he does is sensationnal. Forehand, backhand, everything. Physically speaking, i'd say Todd Reid, the young Australian (laughing).

[marquee]Also a fan of: Andreev, Volandri, Clement, Robredo & Roddick[/marquee]
