Wimbledon final

Ive just seen it again and I think the first two sets was the best tennis Ive seen since Aussie Open 05( Safin-Federer).

Also its the best Ive seen Rafa play. He was hitting as good as Ive ever seen him hit and really dominating the rallies

I really thought Rafa was in decline with his fitness and all, but this match reassures me that Rafa, with all his problems in the US, and if his schedule gets better, hasnt reached his peak yet.

Re: Wimbledon final

Nadal, when he is comfortable with a surface and his tactics, is a dangerous, DANgerous tennis player.

I agree with what you say about the quality of the 1st 2 sets in that Wimbledon final.. sets 3,4 and 5 were pretty good too. All in all, it was a match played at a high level.

EDIT: Will Nadal ever be comfortable with his tactics on hardcourts?

Re: Wimbledon final

I thought you were going to say that grass court tennis is in a sorry state when a moonballer like Nadal can make the final two years in a row playing predominately from the baseline.

If Haas made the final, he'd have done it from the baseline. Would you say grass court tennis is in a sorry state then?

Re: Wimbledon final

If Haas made it to the final no one would complain because he actually has an attacking slice backhand and good netplay.

Re: Wimbledon final

And those are classic grass court skills, many would agree.

And yet, he has never made it past the R16

Perhaps the way to play on grass has changed

Re: Wimbledon final

And thats my point. Its also interesting that Haas came to net a lot more in the US Open than he did at Wimbledon. Just shows how much slower it is now. I also have no explanation why my favourite player hasn't made it to at least a QF. Theoretically he should be good on grass but for some reason hes had barely any success at Wimbledon.

Re: Wimbledon final

To me, it seems that it's about how much Nadal wants it. He's the so-called King of Clay, so he wants to defend that title very much, plus he loves the surface. With Wimbledon, he really really wants it, and so I honestly think he tries harder on clay and grass than on hard courts.

Re: Wimbledon final

Poor Nadal. He'll never match Roger's 4 consecutive US Opens.

Re: Wimbledon final

its strange how a few years ago when ppl where complaining about how fast the courts where at wimbledon so the organisers change it now ppl are complaining about how slow the courts are now. Can't win should just get over it.

Re: Wimbledon final

If you rewatch Federer-Sampras of 2001, you can clearly see how much the grass has changed. There were no 'rallies' in that match, maybe one in 20 points. It's mostly service winners, return winners, or net points. Sometimes a good return which draws a forced error. Rallies of 4 or more strokes rarely happened, and when they did, a good offensive shot would pretty much win you the point.

Word of advice, since you're new. GlennMirnyi will never, ever, voluntarily and intentionally say anything that could be construed as even the slightest bit complimentary to Rafael Nadal. He'd die first. So don't pay any attention to him, he rarely makes sense.
