Could Somebody Explain To Me Where....

... all the threads chastising Mantilla and Safin for calling injury timeouts at critical points in the match are?

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Re: Could Somebody Explain To Me Where....

yeah, mantilla called for a medical time-outs in the fourth sets, prolonging marat's agony of not being able to hold serve. boy, had he some chances... i think his break point opportunities were like over 50...well, that's marat, he wants to kill his fans of heart attack lol

Marat: Last question: what do you think of me? Dinara: You are my god! When you play, I love
to see you. When you lose, I am even sadder than when it is me. When you are wounded, I suffer.
When you speak to me, I drink your words. When you come to see me playing, I am with the angels.

Re: Could Somebody Explain To Me Where....

I don't think either player was severely injured and took advantage of the rules yet again.
Personally I am against the players having a massage for "cramps" when they are not fit enough to go the distance.

These timeouts were between games though werent they? (i.e not on break points)

That and anything done to contribute to a case of the Gaudio chokes is EEEEEEVVVVVIIIIILLLLL

I didn't catch the match, myself, so I don't have any comment as to whether or not they were seriously injured. I would have to think that they weren't, based on everything I have read from people who did see the match... I'd like to come to my own conclusions based on having seen it, but ESPN wouldn't allow for such a match to be shown

Well, I accept it because it's allowed. But if they all of a sudden altered the rules, and they weren't ridiculous, I don't think that I'd lose too much sleep over the matter.

I believe so, yes. So not quite as sketchy as the Robredo timeout, but notable none the less.

Re: Could Somebody Explain To Me Where....

The man known as Jeff Tarango came out with a classic comment about Paul Goldstein at Wimbledon and it holds true "Girls get cramps", these so-called fit athletes should be intelligent enough to make sure that they avoid cramps and they shouldn't be getting timeouts, they didn't before and they shouldn't now.

Re: Could Somebody Explain To Me Where....

wasn't there a rule before that you can't get treatment for cramps?

Yes, there was and Fred Stolle likes to harp on about it and I agree with him.

What happened was Shuzo Matsuoka at the US Open collapsed with cramp and couldn't get treated and had to default the match, and the gutless pricks decided to change the rules, and now you have this joke of a rule that is getting abused everywhere.

Re: Could Somebody Explain To Me Where....

Mantilla was injured, though. He was barely able to serve properly for most of the 5th set and was not able to run to drop shots either. So I don't think his was a tactical time-out. Safin's could have been, though. Maybe he was hoping that the delay would mean stopping play for the day would come sooner.

Re: Could Somebody Explain To Me Where....

Okay, so let's hear the rationalizations for Marat's timeout during the Potitio match

Because it's obviously okay for Marat to do it, but not Coria and Robredo. Let's hear why!

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Re: Could Somebody Explain To Me Where....

Safin booed after victory

Starace was cheered off despite losing
Marat Safin earned a second epic win in two rounds but was booed off court after coming from match-point down to beat Italian qualifier Potito Starace.
Starace was serving for the match at 5-4 and deuce in the fourth set, having already missed two match-points, when Safin called for the trainer.

The French crowd jeered and whistled as Safin got treatment for blisters.

When play resumed Safin hit a sublime lob to break back, and went on to win 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 3-6 7-5 7-5.

Starace managed to save five match-points himself in the deciding set, but was unable to regain the initiative.

At the end of four hours and 25 minutes Safin was booed off court while Starace was cheered by the remaining spectators in the gloom of Court Philippe Chatrier.

In the previous round Safin overcame Felix Mantilla in another epic that ended 11-9 in the fifth set.

Re: Could Somebody Explain To Me Where....

THanks for the article.

For what it's worth, I feel the same way about Safin's antics as I do about Coria and Robredo's. That is to say, I don't like it, but I accept that it happens and at the moment the rules allow for it to happen. So, I don't get too fussed up about it.

I just made this thread to point out the glaring inconsistencies in this forum Robredo does it.... 5 page thread. Safin does it.... ?

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.
