Who is the worst American on clay?

In light of a new record set by the Americans yeasterday (they were unable to get a single American into the 3rd round of a men's Grand Slam for the first time in the open era) which American do you think "sucks" the most on clay? This can be a current player or a retired player.

Also, which of the current players do you think will improve the most on clay throughout the rest of his career.

Yeah, Dent. But Roddick isn't much better... but I guess he'll improve

Re: Who is the worst American on clay?

I dunno, tie between Dent and Fish I think. But I think Fish has more potential to improve than Dent does, just because his game is all-around better and Dent really relies on serve-volleying. I feel like Ginepri really should be the best just b/c of his gamestyle, but he can't seem to win a match in a tournament But none of them will get better unless they play more on it

Where do we start? They all suck at the mo. They all were in a kick-ass draw together, and they lost. So what.....

Re: Who is the worst American on clay?

You are ALL wrong. There is no American currently playing that sucks on clay worse than Jan-Michael Gambill. He hasn't won a singles match on clay since May of 2002 (St. Poelten) and sometimes I wonder if he ever will again. He's got decent doubles results on clay, but he has such a serious mental block about playing singles it just boggles me (trust me, he and I have discussed this). But, I will give him credit for at least trying. He could have just stayed home for 8 weeks and got ready for grass (which he does much better on) or picked up all kinds of cheap points at hardcourt Challengers, but he decided to go ahead and give it a try again (unlike some players who avoid England at all costs...).

Good thing I'm a Moya fan or this slam would be completely over for me.

Best twitter posts of the epic match:

@dougrobson - Whoever is supplying Mahut with hair gel needs to ink a sponsorship deal now.

@Wimbledon - FYI, with @Wimbledon live scoring devices, please add 50 to the games in the fifth set of the Isner v Mahut match.

@HolterMedia - Nice to see that a three-day test has come to tennis here @wimbledon.

Re: Who is the worst American on clay?

You know, despite all the votes for Dent, he has a better win on clay than either Roddick (i'm ignoring his win over gimpy low ranked Coria, because back then, that wasn't such a hot win) or Ginepri do

Not that I disagree. I've seen Dent on clay exactly once, and if I can live my whole life without ever having to see that again, I'll be happy. How on earth did Novak lose to him?!

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

I don't know, probably some guy ranked like 1300?

But if you're talking about compared to other surfaces, definitely Roddick.

Le Poussin! Faithfully ignoring the haters since 1995.

Re: Who is the worst American on clay?

I know it's not Spadea, but all of the others have shown a great ineptitude on clay so far.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Who is the worst American on clay?

I was going to mention Spadea. He's got the ground strokes and the game to succeed on clay. He really should have gotten past Jeanpierre and made a tournament of this.
