djoko and rafa in the next few years...

after fed retires, do you see either of these two also hitting sampras' slam mark someday?

would they dominate and rack up the titles between themselves?

what do you think of this what-if? because honestly, i don't see anyone else beating rafa and djoko with much conviction in the current pool of their generation

Re: djoko and rafa in the next few years...

unlikely that they will be in the sampras range. That would require a relatively injury-free career.

I could see rafa winning 8 slams and joker winning 6 maybe. We shall see, they are still young and would have to deal with oncoming generations of players with a talent pool that is growing with every passing era.

There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers.

No. Perhaps upwards of 8 slams for each and no more is my prediction and it could be a lot less. Federer will make life difficult for them over the next 3 years, by which point the 'fresh balls' will start making their mark and giving Nole and Rafa a hard time. Also, I think another player from the current younger generation will make their mark next year.

Re: djoko and rafa in the next few years...

No because they're not as good as Fed to dominate. There are too many players at the same level as them so I think each youngster will have their shares of slams.

Wimbledon Upsets:
Safin def. Djokovic 6-4, 7-6, 6-2
Schuettler def. Blake 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4
Kudryavtseva def. Sharapova 6-2, 6-4
Tipsarevic def. Roddick 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 7-6
Dancevic def. Nalbandian 6-4, 6-2, 6-4
Zheng def. Ivanovic 6-1, 6-4
Tanasugarn def. Jankovic 6-3, 6-2
Radwanska def. Kuznetsova 6-4, 1-6, 7-5

Re: djoko and rafa in the next few years...

The fact that Fed continues to rack up the slams in spite of the "fresh balls" is proof of his superiority with the current exception of Nadal at the FO. That will be rectified in 2008. Mark my words, Federer wins Roland Garros in 2008!

Re: djoko and rafa in the next few years...

I like Rafa more than Djokovic, I like Rafa's style and in my opinion he is more talented than Djokovic but to be honest, i see Djokovic's future brighter in the future once Roger retires. Rafa is what, 21? and already has chronic knee pain and what not, he has already skiped slams because of injury and quit matches for the same reason. his performances post wimbledon also leave a lot to be desired (2 years in a row now) I frankly don't even see him wining Roland Garros next year, Not sure if Roger is going to win it but this sucks for me cos if Roger doesn't win it I want Rafa to win it, but I don't think Rafa will even make it to the final, as much as I want to, I get a feeling he is worn out from simply too much strain to his body, also, mentaly the guy can only take so much, he would have 3 roland garros, 2 wimbledons (maybe) and be #1 in the world by a mile if it wasn't for federer, if he was playing in another era, he would probably have an easier time but I think he is just geting worn out. Djokovic on the other hand is on the rise, he still gets injured (fakes 90% of the time) but I see him doing good in hardcourt. he seems to have the perfect kind of game for hardcourt, he is very well rounded, doesn't have any real weaknesses but in wimbledon I don't see him going that far and even less in clay.

Re: djoko and rafa in the next few years...

I Rafa and Djoko are the best of the rest, no doubt. I'm looking forward to a bit of a rivalry developing when Roger retires. Which I think he'll start to contemplate when he's won Roland Garros a few times. I agree that I think Djokovic has a brighter future than Nadal, purely because of the injury thing, it's a shame. Rafa just doesn't play well on hard courts, but once he's conquered Wimbledon, I'm sure he'll improve!

Dunno. But Rafael is only playing only say what 60% of what he's truly capable of playing. He's too defensive and not aggressive enough while it's obvious he can (wimbledon). But hey, Federer plans to play till he's 35 or something lol if he is able to keep it up up to that age ahaha then dunno what's going to happen :P

I think Nadal and Djokovic and win 14 slams in total (ie. 8 and 6) but i cant see them each pulling in upwards of 10
