Am I the only person, who...

...is just sad because Andy lost?

I like him, his game, it`s fun to watch him and he has a great body...

Why do so many people hate him?

I am not particularly sad. I wanted Mutis to win, but I am pleased with Andy's mentality in the game. I just don't like his game.

I'm a little sad for him; also it's good for tennis generally if the top players perform well-->> Roddick is one of the most marketable personalities so the game needs him to be successful. *Anyway I'm sure he'll be a major force at this years Wimbledon & USO again!

There are a lot of us who are upset that Andy lost but you move on and look forward to better days.

I agree.

There's no logic to explain the extreme reactions he elicits but he is in good company with many great players in that regard.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

I'l very happy for Mutis because I'm french, and I was in RG today. But I find it's sad a player like Andy is out at the second round. I appreciate his game.

"A la base, nous les Français, sommes les champions du monde des râleurs. J'ai l'impression qu'être français, c'est un peu un handicap pour être le meilleur dans ton sport.
Pour faire du sport de haut niveau, d'autres mentalités sont plus propices".

Unhappy Re: Am I the only person, who...

I'm glad you started this thread, GermanBoy. I'm not sad that Andy lost. I'm sad about the way he lost. I think that Andy's greatest attribute is how he constantly works to improve himself. I know he's struggled on clay. I've seen the way he's tried to conquer it and how much U.S. tennis has supported him by pushing him to make the coaching change last year and PMac giving him European clay experience in Davis Cup. He was overwhelmed today by the surface, the opponent, loss of his first serve advantage, and off court concerns. It's understandable to me that it was too much. I know he would have felt better if he had lost playing his best mental and physical game. As a tennis fan, it was painful for me to watch. I hope he doesn't give up on the surface.

Re: Am I the only person, who...

Considering that Roddick will most likely be a big factor at Wimbledon and the US Open, I'm not exactly sad that I've been temporarily spared him for one Slam. To answer your question GermanBoy, there are many who are sad at his loss; I'm just not one of 'em.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Re: Am I the only person, who...

I'm sad for his loss - he is going to be extremely dangerous at Wimbledon once again, as he has longer to prepare and get used to the grass. If he ruins Henman's chances of the title, i will....

I dont like big servers, I dont find his game entertaining or interesting.

You shouldnt be sad anyway, he will probably do great in wimbledon and the us open.

I miss: Ivan Lendl, Korda, Novak, Bruguera, Rios, Kucera, Courier, Mantilla, Costa, Santoro and Ferreira.

Good luck to:

Gaudio, Murray, Florian Mayer, Chela, Nalbandian, Radek Stepanek, Volandri, Youzhny and Verdasco.

Conan would be very surprised if Roddick beat Henman on grass.

I wouldn't be surprised - his power game can beat anyone. However, you are right to a certain extent i think, cos Henman has got the measure of his game on a fast court. But still, Henman won't beat him every time. Nobody will.

He still improved from the last 2 years where he left after the 1st rounds... I really though he was gonna make it atleast to the 4th round this year though, especially since his draw wasn' too tough...
