Obscure record alert

Not sure if anyone else have pointed this out, but the domination of this generation by Federer and Nadal is very clearly showcased by this semi-obscure stat.

MOST CONSECUTIVE SLAMS WON BY A DUO IN THE OPEN ERA

2005-present: Roger Federer (7) & Rafael Nadal (3): 11 (and counting)
1968-70: Rod Laver (5) & Arthur Ashe (2): 7
1993-94: Pete Sampras (4) & Sergi Bruguera (2): 6
1985-86: Ivan Llendl (3) & Boris Becker (2): 5

Note: from 1979-81 Borg & McEnroe won every slam that wasn't played in Australia, where they didn't enter the competition.

Nice stats. Didn't see this until i tripped over some other posts.

There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers.

**it`s "11 & counting"
[if FED had converted his mp vs. Safin @ AO 2005 it would be "14 & counting" ].

Re: Obscure record alert

it could be possible if djokovic keeps progressing that we have a three way domination of slams for 2-3 years. I don't know how ppl could argue at that point, there is no depth at the top.

at this point, nadal and federer are a true duopoly. Two of the greatest players EVER in one era.

It's because of nostalgia. We often remember things from the past as better than they really are. For instance Federer and Nadal have already played more matches at the slams than Borg and McEnroe ever did.

Exactly! In a few years time people are gonna miss the days of the incredible Roger-Rafa rivalry.
