#1 American After The US Open

Right now as it stands, Andy Roddick is the top ranked American male player @ #5 (he has 2,990 points). James Blake, however, isn't that far behind. He's currently #6 (with 2,330 points [before the points for his Pilot Pen win]).

Andy reached last year's final, but is drawn to face Roger Federer in the final. James lost to Roger in 4 sets last year, but has a favorable draw to reach his first career Grand Slam semifinal before potentially facing off against Roger/Andy.

At the start of the fall hardcourt season, who will be the #1 ranked American? Both have held the mantle before, who will own it when the US Open ends in 2 weeks?

Nadal - Blake - Dimitrov - Del Potro - Isner - Fish - Haase

Re: #1 American After The US Open

Blake may move temporarily ahead of Roddick after the US Open because he has 450 less points to defend and a better draw.

Roddick should recover the #1 American spot by the end of the year since he has very little points to defend after the US Open (210 points) while Blake has to defend points from his victories at Stockholm and Bangkok and from his finals at TMC (750 points).

Roddick

Blake is tired as hell. The 2 weeks before the Open will cost him large. He won't go far this year.
