Roddick vs. Federer Head to Head stats..

I posted this in the Roddick forum...but I figured since I did do the work of crunching all these numbers...I might as well post it out here. I wanted to know just how un-even the stats are when Roger plays Andy...

Want to see dominance? A little trip over to ATPtennis.com reveals everything we need know about this match-up. Historically Roddick does worse in every statistic against Federer than he does against the regular field and Federer does better against Andy in every statistic than he does against the regular field. It's ridiculous...

Stats Roddick Federer
Aces 110 151
Break Points Won 15/61 (24%) 47/103(45%)
Total Return Points Won 26% 39%
Total Service Points Won 60% 73%
Total Points Won 44% 55%
Sets Won 6 32
Matches 1 13

YTD
Service Points Won 73% 69%
Break Points Won 36% 41%
Total Points Won 53% 55%
Return Points Won 34% 41%
Break Points Coversion 36% 41%

First of all roddick has to win his first 4 rounds for this dicussion to continue.
If he can lose to gilles muller at uso two years ago. he can lose to anybody.

Really, Federer is just Roddicks worst nightmare a lot of the time. Federer is so superior from the back of the court that he has good chances on Roddicks second serve and his own two serves.. Roddick is only really a lock for points won on the first serve against TMF.

If the match does take place you can guarantee it'll be at night (last year's final doesn't really count as one as it started in the day), and the courts are apparently quicker this year, two things which could count in Roddick's favour.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Perhaps. For Roddick to have a chance Federer needs to be one of three things, playing terrible...injured...or tired...or a combination of the three. There's a reason why they play the matches but, a night match and a faster surface won't be enough by itself.

A couple of other interesting stats:

-Roddick has won 80% of the points off of his 1st serve only once (TMC 2006)

-Federer has broken him at least twice in every match except for TMC 2006.

Fed was lucky to win that match. Andy has two match points in the 2nd set tie-break - one on his serve. If he had made an ace there....

Also, his unsuccessful smash at 6-5 was choking at its finest. Once it became 6-6, I remember thinking that Fed is going to win the match.

Re: Roddick vs. Federer Head to Head stats..

Actually that was to lose the tiebreak 10-8, the one matchpoint he had on his serve he came in and hit one of those poor chopped forehand volleys cross-court that sat up for Federer to pass down the line with his forehand. After that the points were basically serve-dominated until the last point of the tiebreak.

Andy missed the smash at *8-9. He missed a first serve on his match point but on the other two I believe Fed hit aces.
