London to host the masters cup from 2009 to 2012

1040: It's just been announced that London will host the end-of-season Masters Cup for four years from 2009, which means top-quality tennis in the UK - under a roof! Great news.

So it's gonna be indoors, does that mean it will be played on carpet like all the past events ?

At least rain won't stop this event, though a roof could leak.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Terrible news. The 4 cities that host grand slams shouldn't be allowed to host the Masters Cup. Location-wise, the big tournaments should be spread out more.

I agree. No city should be hosting both a Grand Slam and a Masters Cup, when there are many cities and countries that are deprived of top level tennis. And the fact that this will occur for four years makes it even worse.

It will probably be played on indoor hard, since they seem to be getting rid of carpet more and more.

I miss carpet tennis too. It is a dying surface unfortunately. The Masters Cup used to be held every year on this surface, as well as the Grand Slam Cup in the 90s. Vienna used to be played on carpet as well before switching to indoor hard a few years ago. I loved the duels between Sampras and Becker in the mid 90s

It's going to be held at the o2 arena ,formerly known as the millenium dome, looks like a fantastic venue
It will be a hard court

I'm not really that familiar with carpet tennis in the past, though from what I have seen, it is a far more interesting surface than indoor hard. You know they have just switched Basel to indoor hard for this year too. I wish they had more carpet tournaments in women's tennis too. I think they have just gotten rid of Tokyo, as a carpet tournament.

Damn, I wish they would just have it at a different venue every year.

I didn't know about Basel. That's a huge shame and Basel has always been one of my favourite international series tournaments around, partially because of the surface.
On the WTA side as well as Tokyo switching surfaces to hard, Antwerp, which is played on carpet, will be scrapped after 2008. The hardcourts are gaining an unfair stranglehold on both tours which is a huge shame.

This is horrible.

Wimbledon scheduling is bad enough. These idiots dont need another tournament.
