Roof on Centre Court

Like most people I cannot belive they chose to not play on the middle sunday!

This lead me to thinking though, what the hell difference is having a roof on Centre Court going to make to the overall quality of Wimbledon. All the top seeds will get there matches in regardless of the rain, whilst the rest of the players will be faced with a cramped 2nd week with back-to-back matches. This seems ludicrous, can you imagine a fully rested top seed losing to an exhausted lower ranked player who has played 10sets of tennis in 2 days. As far as I can see, upsets will be less in the rainy years?

Funnily enough this afternoon after Pat Cash mentioned pretty much same thing in the BBC studio.
It's not going to be a level playing field in future years to come as far as i can see it?

Re: Roof on Centre Court

it is a little unfair, but the positive effects easily outweigh the negative ones. the hawkeye's also "just" used on big courts, so that is kinda the same thing: the seeded guys benefit from it whereas the rest of the pros has to deal with the umpires.

Im not convinced, hawk-eye probably affects a few points in match if at all (obviously it could be match-point/break point).
The roof issue, gives extra days rest in the middle of a Grandslam to already the most talented players.

...who in turn generate the most money for the tournament. that's what it boils down to these days. is that news to you?

and i totally agree with you that basically this is completely unfair. but, you know, this is how the world works, not only in sports but in business and daily life, too. the first million's the hardest to get. once you're a ceo, cash just keeps comin'.

money goes to money................true!

It's a shame though, especially at Wimbledon where they would like to appear traditional etc (eg. not playing on the middle sunday if it can be helped, even if a day behind)

actually, i'm pretty surprised that wimbledon doesn't seem to have changed at all until now, considering that thatcher turned the country upside down businesswise. wimby's the least aggressive marketed (at least it seems like that to me) grand slam, it appears to rely solely on its prestige and elite status. in new york or paris they're all about the cash, wimby's kinda able to "hide" the money thing pretty good.

Re: Roof on Centre Court

I don't care about the players, just give us something to watch , ok ?

I am speaking as a viewer but you get the point

I mean Federer is rested and everyone else will be unnerved and tired and what not because of the rain
