Shocking Ferrero Stat for the Championships

Juanqui has served the same number of aces as Andy Roddick so far in the tournament, 43. If you factor in that his baseline game has been very solid with his footspeed, and that his forehand is circa 2003 effective this week, it's a shame that he could face Federer so early, it would've been nice for him to be on the other side of the draw.

Of course he must first beat Tipsarevic, which would have been much easier yesterday after how long Janko had spent on the court. He'll be able to rest up for tomorrow, and it will be a real challenge for Juan Carlos- but one that I believe he'll be able to pull through.

Ferrero is very undestimated due to his inconsistency, but almost always great players eventually come back with a good result. This could be his!

Paolo, it's not a shocking stat. It's a beautiful one!!! I told him at the Aus Open when he had 4 aces against Hacek in about 2 games that he was serving better than Roddick (Hacek was injured though), but it's nice to see that my joke is a reality.

And yes it's a little shocking I suppose. Destroy Tipsarevic Juanqui!!!

Re: Shocking Ferrero Stat for the Championships

Ferrero got most of those aces in his marathon first round match against Hajek who can't return at all. I don't think Ferrero is playing badly, but that aces number is a fluke.

He made his personal record in serving aces against Hajek.

He also won 24 points in a row on serve against Blake.

Ferrero won a set without dropping a point on serve against a top ten player. That's no fluke.

Re: Shocking Ferrero Stat for the Championships

That is indeed a great stat. It is nice to see JCF playing well.

With ace stats, well it's hard to compare ace numbers across different matches. What is an ace against one player, may not be against another one. It depends on return ability to such a big extent. Otherwise roddick would not be outaced in matches against great returners. It's not that his ace ability goes down, it's that what would be an ace against another player just is not an ace any more.

Re: Shocking Ferrero Stat for the Championships

JCF is using his serve out wide on the AD court very well indeed, but the ACEs number doesn't mean much. As pointed out, most of them were against Hajek.

The other thing about Roddick is that he doesn't really hit a lot of aces these days, but he still hits a ton of service unreturnables. His placement isn't usually good enough for tons of aces, but the serve is big enough to garner a huge amount of unreturnables which are just as good as aces.

Re: Shocking Ferrero Stat for the Championships

So it's settled, JCF's serve is just as good as Roddick's now. Along with his solid baseline game, that should easily make him the next #3 player in the world, as Roddick has nothing other than a serve.

You're just worried that he'll overtake Ljubo on ace count.
