Who is the thief in the Male locker room?

http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports...major_pro.html

Jonas Bjorkman, who usually doesn't get steamed about anything except cold Swedish meatballs, is furious about an increasing amount of wallet theft in ATP locker rooms, including a handful of incidents at the Sony Ericsson Open on Key Biscayne earlier this year.

"It's happened at Indian Wells, Key Biscayne, the Australian Open, the French Open, Queens. It's become a very serious problem and we're going to be bringing it up at the players meeting at Wimbledon," said Bjorkman.

It's happened so often that Bjorkman is concluding that it's not some hired help handing out towels in the locker room but either players or coaches.

"I had my wallet stolen at the Australian Open. If they just wanted the money so bad, OK. But they took my credit cards, my driver's license. I had to cancel all those things and it takes time to get everything redone."

Bjorkman had been gone from the Aussie Open locker room no more than five minutes to complete a routine post-match drug test. He left his tennis bag out, which, in retrospect, was a big mistake. "They called me later from Qantas at the airport and told me they'd found the wallet," he said. Everything but his ID had been taken.

Radek Stepanek, the Czech player, reportedly had 5,000 Euros taken from his wallet at the French Open.

Walk into a men's locker room and you'll see players' bags on the floor or the benches. Not everyone takes the precaution of locking everything up, even for a few minutes while taking a shower.

But that is no doubt changing.

There are two obvious remedies. Tournaments are going to have to take locker room security a lot more seriously and players are going to have to smarten up and understand that not everyone in the locker room makes $1 million a year. Or, what is they say? Desperate people do desperate things.

There is an article about it in L'Équipe too. Apart Bjorkman and Stepanek, the article also mentions PHM and Gasquet (wallet in Miami), Allegro (wallet in RG), J. Murray (cell phone and wallet in Queen's), Grosjean (money, Queen's), Butorac (prize money in Surbiton), Mahut (iPod during the Wimbledon qualies), Carlsen (Rolex during the Wimbledon qualies)...

Wow, that is SICK. What nasty minds can those thieves have - players, a lot of them journeymen working their asses off, and thieves even running off even with the prize money???

Re: Who is the thief in the Male locker room?

I saw that Mahut's iPod. Sorry to know it's gone these days.

In Wroclaw they stole the racquet bag and clothes from Juho Paukku (FIN). He left it at the corridor full of other players, also I was there and the hostesses, bunch of linesmen and the supervisor substitute... Andis Juska saw the woman who took it, but thought it was his gf. We had on tapes everybody entering the hall, but now go and search for an unknown woman in the whole country.
