Hamburg's Retractable Roof

That's seriously the coolest thing I've ever seen on a tennis court.

Re: Hamburg's Retractable Roof

Doesn't the Rod Laver arena they use at AO have one already?

Yes, however:

a) The Hamburg roof is just brilliant, it looks so cool when it's in the "ready position" (is see-through) and when it's being closed;
b) It takes 4 minutes to close, whereas the one on RLA takes about 11/12 I believe.

Re: Hamburg's Retractable Roof

The one in Shanghai is even better, but it's always closed during the tournament.

Yeah, that's it, I was trying to think of a way to describe it. It's definitely interesting.

Re: Hamburg's Retractable Roof

yep, the roof is pretty cool. but the cool thing is basically the little time it takes to close. on the other hand, the light on the court isn't the best as the roof kinda casts weird shadows when it's sunny; you could see that yesterday.

it's a bit like the roof at the commerzbank arena in frankfurt (soccer), where it's also quite irritating to watch matches on tv when the sun is shining. remember the first england match at the world cup? horrible to watch...the shadows looked terrible on the field.

on the other hand: big up our german craftsmanship!

Isn't Hamburg's Roof see-through?

I cannot stand Djokovic
NEW YORK METS

I'm an American who loves clay tennis and the clay season...what is wrong with that picture?

yeah, it is, but it's got these poles (or whatever it is) that hold the roof together.
