Mirnyi defeats Roitman 7/5 6/4

32/77 points won when returning.

Another good, but expected, win. Come the toad.

Good show by Max here, and hopefully he can take out Soderling next round.

Even on clay? Honest question here.

Much worse. The faster the surface the best for Max. Soderling returns very well (as most Swedes) and it's no surprise he owns Max. In Minsk Max had MPs and if he wasn't sick he would probably have more chances (no excuses here, Robin won fair and square), but on clay I don't see much of a chance for Max against the powerful returns of Robin.

I agree Gu, it is wishful thinking on my part mostly because the Toad tends to self-destruct on occasion.

But, on the other hand... Mirnyi in clay Masters QF... THAT would be the first surprise of this year's main clay season

Well he's done it twice before, in Hamburg - in 02 he beat Moya and Zabaleta en route to the semis, so it wouldn't be that much of a shock.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Re: Mirnyi defeats Roitman 7/5 6/4

The Toad will get him, though I want to be proven wrong.

The Beast has beaten some very good players on clay, he defeated Guga when he was RG champ in 2001 6-3 3-6 7-6(5) and Guga defended RG that year. He also defeated Moya and Horna twice on clay, yet he loses to Ginepri on clay.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".
