Some Andy Roddick certainly don't agrees with that.

Re: No competence for Federer this year at Wimbledon.

willie, I think you mean no competition - no competence means he's got no ability

Actually I think he could have quite a lot of competition. Henman and Nalbandian in particular are very dangerous on grass. Roddick is less of a worry to be honest, because they are going to be at opposite ends of the draw and will only meet if they get to the final.

I think if anyone is going to beat Roger at Wimbledon this year, they'll have to beat him at his own game. Serving and Volleying. So Tim could certainly challenge Roger for the title, especially if he's in Roger's half.

I can't wait for Roddick's latest excuse of why he won't win, maybe he'll use the "opponent grunt's two seconds after he hits the ball" or maybe the "umpire is hitting the microphone during his service motion" or maybe a Hewitt US Open flipout revival, or an argument over a line call. Please, the guy's an immature punk.

TheGrandstand, get a life. Pretty sad to diss Andy in a thread that has nothing to do with him. Pretty ironically funny of you to put a picture of him winning the USO in your signature if you hate him so much.

Anyway back to what I came in this thread to discuss, I think Henman would have the best chance of beating Roger on grass as it's the best surface for both, Tim is playing great as of late too, and he knows how to beat Roger. But Tim will probably be seeded pretty high I imagine, so would he be high enough to be 4 (in other words, unable to meet Roger til the SF)? I dont know Wimby's weird formula nor do I feel like doing the math even if I did

Re: No competition for Federer this year at Wimbledon.

The only people who have a legitimate shot at taking out Federer is Roddick, henman or a super serving Philippoussis. Anybody else will only beat Fed if he's having a completely off day, which I don't see hapening

Re: No competition for Federer this year at Wimbledon.

some people were claiming federer is unbeatable at the FO as well.......there is always competition. In federer's interview today he said "no slam is easy".

Re: No competition for Federer this year at Wimbledon.

besides in 2002 all it took is for Roger to be of his game and for Ancic to be pumped up and playing near his best for Federer to get taken apart in 3 sets.

Re: No competition for Federer this year at Wimbledon.

Well first he has to play Halle now. Then we have to look at the draw. And each tournament is different. Despite Grass beeing one of the best surfaces for Roger he still has to win 7 matches to hold up that golden trophy again. And the competition starts from the very first point that Roger will be playing at Wimby. These days there are really no easy matches left each one has to be one first.

So good luck Roger!!

Re: No competition for Federer this year at Wimbledon.

Probably a good thing Rogi went out early in the FO, if he had gotten to the final he may not have had enough to defend Wimby. I think as time goes on and Rogi gets better and better he will be able to win both in one year.

He might be immature as you say. But once he gets into a comfort zone, its difficult to control him.

Re: No competition for Federer this year at Wimbledon.

Roger in 02 had confidence issues about being an favorite. That is no longer the problem. Roger will be the fave for sure, but he has to play well like everyone else. I'm not so sure he will win it again this year. He will always be a favorite here though.

Re: No competition for Federer this year at Wimbledon.

Federer has got a good shot at defending his Wimbledon title. It may not be as easy as it was last year, but we all know that he can do it. It will be the first time in a long time since someone has been able to defend their grandslam title. No one has been able to do that since Agassi won the Aussie Open last year and it is about time.

Go Federer, Nadal!!!
