Global Representation from Moderators - Jelana

Posted by Jelena

Just representation of the global regions in the mods camp. I don't think it's good if a particular region is overrepresented.

Agreed, isn't there diversity in the current moderating squad?

I think only Africa isn't represented? Maybe Asia too.

I don't really get this suggestion, I feel that there has been global representation, maybe you could clarify? Keep in mind that someone needs to apply from countries for us to have them represented.

Re: Global Representation from Moderators - Jelana

there are currently 3 or 4 moderators of important parts of the forum from one very small particular region. So when they feel offended you immediately have 3 or 4 shouting to get a ban. I think the global representation could give an equalisation to the mod team and by that balance out the opinions about for example discrimination remarks. Because what someone calls discriminatory, doesn't have to be discriminatory to another mod from another region.

I think that if you expect us to take this suggestion seriously you should try to be a bit more specific, I still have no idea what you are talking about when you say the bolded part.

Probably because Corey Feldman was banned because he made discriminatory remarks against Balkans in general. I think that's what she meant.

That there are a couple of moderators from that part of Europe.

I don't think overrepresentation is a problem, underrepresentation is. I think global representation should be one criterium in mod selection, to understand better what is an insult in different cultures. Of course, you can't have mods from everywhere and you must not select mods based purely on their nationality over their abilities.

Re: Global Representation from Moderators - Jelana

Thank you for the suggestion.

We always try to have different areas represented for a couple of reasons.

1) Discriminatory remarks are discussed with moderators from the affected area.
2) A moderator is always awake and available.
3) We have moderators that speak as many languages as possible.

That said, we do choose from a list of applicants, so it does matter who applies and their past history on the site.
