Wild Cards

All the wild cards for the mens draw are defined... Tommy Haas, Marat Safin, Alex Corretja, Alex Bogomolov Jr. and Thomas Enqvist can play the tournament with the WC.

AGUSTIN CALLERI, GUILLERMO CAÑAS AND DAVID NALBANDIAN

Re: Wild Cards

Players need to register for a tournament a few weeks prior to its start. For Indian Wells, it was before Aussie open and so Safins's ranking was too low for him to enter the tournament.

Re: Wild Cards

Yes, he should be seeded according to his ranking on Monday (30), although it may be higher depending on how many people above him are not playing.

Re: Wild Cards

Safin needs a wildcard because:
The Indian Wells Masters series is a 96 player draw. There are 79 direct entries based on the ATP rankings 42 days prior to the tournament. They used the rankings for the Monday that the Aus Open began on, not the Monday after it ended. The tournament had 5 wildcards to award for the Men's draw and it gave one to Marat. If some players choose not to play the tournament, the next players in line could gain direct entry (i.e. Kafelnikov is on the direct list, but he won't play, so I think J. Johansson will get in there). The qualifying tournament (on Wednesday and Thursday) will determine the final 12 spots.

There will be 32 seeds for this tournament and they will all get first round byes. And by the way, I believe most of this was posted in the other thread, about the player commitment list.
