No DC in 2007

This is what Barrionuevo, his PT said to Olé:
http://www.ole.clarin.com/jsp/v4/pag...fecha=20061130
"It's true, it's something we've been talking with David from a while. He needs an urgent rest, from the physical to the mental aspect"
-Will he have a year off from the Davis?
-At first, my idea is for him not to play against Austria in February. I told him, and even if it's a hard decision to make, he has to evaulate it. This year he didn't do a pre-season and after the final he won't be able to do it either because he's playing exhibitions in Cordoba and in the Copa Argentina. He'll just be able to train for one week, because he'll start the year in Chennai, the first week of january.

-Did you talk to Mancini about this possibility?
I told David we have to talk to Luli. My opinion is that he shouldn't play, at least against Austria. He always put the Davis ahead of everything, he never said no. It wouldn't be bad if he didn't play a series. Federer, for example, chooses when to play becaus of his schedule.

-Do you prefer for him to focus in the 2007 season?
Of course, I don't want to happen the same thing that this year, when he had injuries because he didn't do a good preseason. The idea is for him thing what's best for his career. The next 2 or 3 years are key to achieve all the goals he has set to himself.

-Like what?
Including myself, I can say that we own ourselves winning a Grand Slam, is something we want to achieve.. You know what, playing the Davis is great but the dates in which it's played, are always a threat against David's schedule.

Re: No DC in 2007

I actually see the point he's making here, David should put his career first but I have a hard time seeing David not playing Davis Cup for a whole year. Not because I want him to play Davis, I just want him to do what he thinks is best for his career, but because of the fact that he loves playing for his country. It will be interesting to see what will happen next year.

Vamos David and Juan Carlos

Re: No DC in 2007

Yeah, that was an interesting interview. David's decision will probably be influenced by whether they win this final since he probably will want to win the DC even more after being so close. I don't see him not playing the entire year either way. I wonder though, should they both have discussed this earlier so David wouldn't have put his name down for the exhibitions?

Re: No DC in 2007

Thank you Jazz, I never has time to translate the articles.
I can't understand why DAVID has to play two exhibitions. After Davis Cup, he should rest. About next year, I remember Carlo Moyá's decision about not to play DC, and he become to go down.

Re: No DC in 2007

Personally i can't see that David will miss Davis Cup!...but I do undertstand that he doesn't need to play all of them, especially the earlier rounds...so we will see what happens in the new season!!

i think david is doing the right choice.
he loves davis cup, but his true dream is winning a slam. if he wants to do so, the next2-3 years are key: he is at the top of his career

Re: No DC in 2007

From yesterday's Clarin:

(David will finally decide whether he plays in Austria or not after his Australian Open and it depends on whether his knee injury is better.)

Re: No DC in 2007

From today's La Nacion:

Re: No DC in 2007

well if I summarize, he said that he was injured and he will likely not play the first round but if he's OK there is a probability he could play but at the moment he can't because his knee is hurting him

and the team who will play vs austria will probably be : José Acasuso, Guillermo Cañas, Juan Martín del Potro and Sebastián Prieto

VAMOS DAVID AND COME ON ANDRE AND ALLEZ JO !!
