Interesting draw.

I don't know how Monfils could have possibly recovered and I think this is Andreev's first tournament coming back from injury. It'll be difficult to know how well either will be playing.

The round after that: Murray or Srichaphan will be tough to beat, especially Murray. I'm not really sure how David will go here, but I expect him to win his first match.

David just withdrew from the tournament.

He could have surely gone there and played a couple of matches to get some much needed ranking points.

I wonder if it's anything serious because surely he wouldn't have done so otherwise. There's no news article about it anywhere.

hmmmm......
He didin't look injured from what I saw yesterday, but he did play a doubles match after his singles defeat so who knows.
It would've been a great chance to gain some ranking points because he has alot to defend over the next few months but he does pull out of alot of tournaments, hence one of the main reasons why has only 5 titles.

Re: Good luck in Paris-Bercy !!! cheering thread

Apparently he was serving a lot slower towards the latter stages of the Wawrinka match according to someone in the live scoring thread. I did notice from the livestream though (picture quality was really bad for me) that Wawrinka punished the returns on David's serve a lot of the time early in the second set, but then David started to place it better after that. But if so, I don't know why he played the doubles match considering he has experienced this problem so often now that you'd think he'd be cautious by now.

I have taken a closer look at the race and it seems pretty much impossible (more unlikely than I thought) that David is going to be bumped out of the top 8. I really don't think Blake, Robredo and Gonzalez will all be making semi-final or better appearances, especially Robredo.

Edit: It appears his problem might be gastroentitis, though I have no confirmation of this. I just read it in General Messages. I guess the doubles match makes sense now.

It's sure for the gastroenteritis, I've read that in the French version of the Bercy website, it should be in the English version very soon too.
It's a bit strange though because he might be fit again on Tuesday.

Ah ok, thanks for the confirmation.

Yes, I just read about it and it says it generally lasts around three to four days though could go for a week.

Maybe David wants to be better prepared for Davis Cup. This is most important, than Paris. I hope, that he will play in Masters Cup in Shanghai too.

Re: Good luck in Paris-Bercy !!! cheering thread

Apparently, David thinks he's already in Shanghai, otherwhise he wouldn't withdraw. I know he has nothing serious, it's just his attitude. It's not the first time. Disappointing, but that's the way he is...
Well, let's hope he will be in Shanghai. And let's hope he will be ready to compete well there against the top guys.

Re: David out of Bercy

Well, theoretically its four players that could pass David in the race. Blake, Robredo, Gonzalez and Ancic. They all need atleast a semifinal in Paris to do so (ancic needs a final).

However, ancic and Gonzalez might bump into eachother in the third round which eliminates the competition from one of them. So, in order for David to miss Shanghai, the semifinals in Paris have to be Robredo versus Anicic/Gonzalez and Blake versus mrX.

It's possible, but not very likely. I think (and hope ) David made a safe bet here...

Re: David out of Bercy

Oh yes, now I get it. Why bother winning an AMS tournament forever doomed to have an asterisk beside its name because Nadal, Federer and Ljubicic weren't playing. Great thinking, Dave!

Best of luck for:
Fat Dave
Santoro
Jarkko Eminem

Re: David out of Bercy

Not entirely related to the subject of this thread, but I have just read that Davydenko, Blake, Robredo, Gonzalez and Ancic all have the opportunity of taking the #3 ranking which would be incredibly weird especially since it would be because of the absence of most of the top players. I wouldn't find it that strange if Davydenko takes it since he's been high up in the rankings all year and he's had some good GS results this year, but imagine Blake, Gonzalez or Ancic at #3.

But whichever way it pans out, it'll probably change significantly after Shanghai. I'm pretty sure though that next year David won't have the luxury of getting a top 4 seed for the majority of the year like he did this year. But regardless, it will be interesting to see how these next few weeks pan out. I'm definitely excited.
