david to play in chennai

http://www.rediff.com/sports/2006/oct/06david.htm

Masters Cup holder and world No. 4 David Nalbandian has confirmed his participation for the 2007 Chennai Open. The tournament, in its 12th year, will be held at the SDAT Stadium at Nungambakkam from January 1 to 7.

Tournament Director Fernando Soler said, "David's confirmation to participate in the Chennai Open 2007, is a coup and a wonderful opportunity for sports fans to watch the defending Champion of last year's Shanghai World Masters Cup and one of the most consistent players on the ATP tour from close quarters. Confirmation from a player of his potential so much in advance will definitely go a long way in attracting good talent and making Chennai Open 2007, a roaring success."

In 2005, the Argentine finished in Top 10 for third consecutive season capped off by winning the biggest title of his career at season-ending Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai.

Nalbandian came into the Masters Cup in Shanghai (in place of injured Roddick) and captured the title by winning four of the five matches, overcoming a two-sets deficit in the final to beat Roger Federer in a fifth set tie-break.

He thus became the first Argentine to win year-end championships since 1974 when Guillermo Vilas won Masters Title. He has won 5 ATP titles and has a career singles record of 207-101.

Re: david to play in chennai

Looks like Nalbo is taking his Aussie Open preparation very seriously next year. Thanks for the news.
Call me harsh if you want but with his history of pulling out of tournaments, until he steps out on court there I won't believe it.

Re: david to play in chennai

he will be playing an exhibition with nadal in december 31st in qatar or some place like that ,once he is there, he is close to china to play some tennis before the aussie open, appart from that, a good amount of money must have been offered to him, at least that is what i think.
or maybe he wants to do a good preparation for DC tie, which will be close to the aussie open, i think that is on the following week.

Both of them will play an exhibition in December 31st in Thailand, then play in Chennai Open in the following week. It seems we is having a newly wed.

My friend and I have plan to go to the airport to welcome them.

Argentine girl or anyone else can you confirm this exhibition. This article seems to indicate that it has been cancelled.

In other news, it looks certain that a planned December exhibition match between Rafael Nadal and David Nalbandian will be cancelled.

Re: david to play in chennai

i hope he will take preparation for slams and opens very seriously. he usually gets good results in the tournaments without taking it quite seriously ... so more seriously, much better then.

Re: david to play in chennai

That seems like a decent draw. With the exception of Nadal and Dave the playerfield does not look that impressive. Let's hope he can take advantage of that. Vamos Dave!

Vamos David and Juan Carlos

I won't... It's pretty easy to remember, you wish other people happy new year while thinking: 'Happy birthday, Dave!'
