Re: Australian Open 2006

Does anyone know how far Hewitt has to get in Sydney to keep his number 4 seeding? He won the tournament last year so he has some points to defend. [Edit: Actually, I think that week's results aren't included since the tournament ends after the draw takes place]

At this point, I think even if Nadal and Safin were to play, we'd still get those excuses so we're doomed either way. I really hope Nadal plays though (I've lost hope for Safin playing) since I think the AO surface will suit him well.

How many total points are offered? And we will have to see how far he gets in the tournament.

I just checked and David is not that far away from Hewitt in the ranking points

At the beginning of the year, he was 20 points behind Davydenko and 120 behind Hewitt. David overtook Davydenko on yesterday when he lost to Volandri. How many points did Hewitt gain-or lose-with his loss yesterday. And how many points is the Sydney tournament worth? Hewitt is the defending champ in Sydney. What will happen if Hewitt loses early in Sydney?

Re: Australian Open 2006

The winner of Sydney wins 175 points...I don't think it's enough for David to overtake him, and I don't see Hewitt losing in the first round either

I just checked and there are 95 points of difference between Hewitt and David

Now there is. If Hewitt loses early, then he may lose more than the 95 that's the difference between himself and David.

Re: Australian Open 2006

Even if Hewitt loses early in Sydney and Nalbo goes above him in the rankings, Hewitt will still be seeded above Nalbo at the Aussie Open.

So, the tournaments currently being played determine the AO seedings?

Yes.
For example Davydenko can win Sydney and go above Nalbo in that rankings, but because the rankings/seedings cut-off is done the week before the tournament Nalbo would still be seeded above Davydenko.

Re: Australian Open 2006

Oh, and question: when do last year's AO points fall off the computer?

I honestly don't have a clue. I think it would be better to post that on the Rankings thread at GM to get an answer.

Unfortunately, I don't receive Eurosport. And thanks for the information. I think this question is for Judio.
