He usually had good score lines against Robredo, so this result can be expected Those returnings are to watch. Each of the next matches could be tough ones though, Soderling will be the next one.

Re: David Nalbandian in Masters 1000 Toronto (August 9 - 15) Rogers Cup

10 straight wins...Wow!!!

I'm the most ridiculous optimist in the world, and I didn't even think he could turn around after winning six matches last week at the Legg Mason and proceed to beat Ferru and then Robredo/Nieminen with only Monday as a day of rest (and probably travel). David is blown away too. The emphatic nature of the win today.... I'm sure better articles will come out later, but this was just released:

http://straightsets.blogs.nytimes.co...is-resurgence/

Nalbandian Continues His Resurgence

By GREG BISHOP New York Times TORONTO –- Of his recent, striking, resurgent success, even David Nalbandian is surprised.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, of course,” he said here Tuesday at the Rogers Cup.

Nalbandian triumphed again Wednesday, beating Tommy Robredo, 6-3, 6-0, to advance to third round of the Rogers Cup. It marked Nalbandian’s 10th consecutive victory, a streak that included six wins in Washington en route to the title, two Davis Cup victories and two rounds advanced so far here.

All of which is remarkable for Nalbandian, a tennis enigma from Argentina who has climbed as high as No. 3 in 2006, played in at least the semifinals of every Grand Slam and made the Wimbledon final in 2002. The Globe and Mail’s Tom Tebbutt, one of the world’s most respected tennis writers, wrote Wednesday that Nalbandian had “long been considered one of the most talented but least engaged players in tennis.”

At times, Nalbandian seemed more interested in driving rally cars, or making money, than he did about the sport itself. His strained relationship with the news media only added to his reputation as a malcontent.

Still, Nalbandian finished 2007 ranked in the top 10 for the fifth straight year. He had beaten Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in back-to-back indoor tournaments.

Everything changed after that. Nalbandian underwent hip surgery, hurt his hamstring and fell from the top 50 like a cement block sinking toward the bottom of the ocean. Juan Martin del Potro overtook him as the top player from Argentina. Del Potro even won the United States Open in 2009, beating Federer in the final.

Nalbandian said he never considered his career over, never worried whether he would return. He noted Tuesday that injuries affect players across the tour, because its brutal schedule rarely allows for breaks.

“I’m feeling good,” he said. “I’m feeling healthy again.”

In the third round, Nalbandian will face Robin Soderling, the French Open finalist, one of the top players in the world. But the comeback has already begun. After Washington, Nalbandian cracked the top 50 this week at No. 45, a 72-spot jump. He believes he can still contend at Grand Slam tournaments, including the U.S. Open later this month.

If so, perhaps Nalbandian will continue to surprise everyone, himself included.

Nalby: 2010 Legg Mason ATP 500 Champion (Welcome back!! )
Nole: 2009 Paris Bercy Masters & 2010 Dubai ATP500 Champion
Soderking: 2010 ABN AMRO Rotterdam ATP500 Champion
Baggy: 2010 Sydney Champion
Gulbis: 2010 Delray Beach Champion
Del Pony: 2009 U.S. Open Champion (Please come back! )
