Thanks for that report Heretic, and it looks like mostly everyone that watched it on GM agreed with that assessment as well. It's interesting - I don't really think of Kunitsyn as being a big hitter. More of an accurate hitter and he can change directions well also. I would have been curious as to how that performance compared to some of the other matches I've seen him play, for example against Safin in Moscow (where he picked up the title).
Yes, I saw that streaming starts at Thursday. For tomorrow however even if Nalbandian was on main court(he is not as I thought he won't be) we would have not being able to watch him cause TV coverage starts after 14:00 this days.
For Moscow comparison - quite different, that match was much more interesting( at least to me), players were employing different strategies, trying different shots and pace and have ups and downs through the match with different player dominating the points at patches. This one was almost pure ball-bashing, Kunytsyn was the one dictating the rallies (although there was a small period where JCF tried that too with some succes with his FH). And he did changed directions successfully and quite often. Tactically and mentally that match was better from him, in this one it was obvious that he is having one of those days where you just can't miss anything, every ball was harder and faster than previous but everything just went in.

Re: Barcelona 2009

Kunitsyn served for the set at 5-3, then proceeded to lose the next 4 games (so David won the first set 7-5).

Not sure whether Kunitsyn got nervous or what, but he was holding serve relatively comfortably before that.

Re: Barcelona 2009

Geez, they might end up winning more return games then service games.

Re: Barcelona 2009

2 DF in a row , 25% winning on first serve, looks like his serve is even worse then before (if that is possible) and he is broken.

How is it possible to only win 25% on first serves? (it's more of a rhetorical question)
But I see the percentage is a little higher now...

Re: Barcelona 2009

Did he had a single comfortable service game in the first set ?

Yeah, he actually held serve relatively comfortably most games, aside from that one game he got broken - only one break point against him, though maybe there was an additional one towards the end (I don't remember).

It probably wasn't surprising that David "broke" for the match once he held serve at 4-4.

Re: Barcelona 2009

In the second set: 48% first serve in, ONLY 54% won, and miserable 36% second serves won, someone might wonder how did he won with this numbers
