Strange match this one.
I was kind of following it on scoreboard and it seemed a routine win for David until 3-1 in the 2nd set and after that it all went downhill. He started having a hard time to hold his service games and Koellerer, who hadn't been able to hold a single sevice game until then started to close them with relative ease.

It seems he was not feeling well and ran out of energy. He says he might not play in Davis Cup if he doesn't get better.

I just feel this is a real bad defeat. Maybe he should had spared himself the embarassment, and if he felt he was not 100% he should had withdrawned. Just an opinion.

From what I gather, he made the commitment to come and did not want to disappoint. I think he should have scratched this tournament and stayed home to rest.

I agree that it probably would've been better not to play.

That he did is maybe also the result of having to play four mandatory 500 events. A withdrawal from Acapulco would've meant having to play a different 500 tournament instead. And probably a lot of difficulties with his schedule.

Thanks for all the news from everyone. Annoyingly at the time I checked it there still hadn't been any articles about it so it was hard to know what conclusions to draw out of it. I hope he recovers for Davis Cup.

I would not call what you posted "good news" just yet, tennisace. David still has to be examined and cleared by a doctor. Although Clarin and La Nacion declared this "confirmed," everyone is remaining cautiously optimistic. This is according to the articles. No one knows the exact nature of his illness except for the symptoms; otherwise, no one has gotten a handle on it. Until a doctor has nailed down a cause and a recommended course of treatment, we're not out of the woods yet.

On David's official site, a news article from yesterday says that he'll play unless the doctors advise against it. The article also claims that he never really intended to withdraw from the tie and that too much was made of his statements after his loss at Acapulco.

Today, Óle,Clarin & La Voz report that David will play, citing David's team and his press chief as their source.

I hope the doctors advise against it.

Just curious: why do you "hope" the doctors advise against it? Here's the thing: David and his team expect him to practice with the team in preparation for the upcoming tie. In the event that David is ruled out due to this virus he has, then he will not. But....let's understand that David did not say he would not play; he left that up to the doctor. In my opinion, all these talking heads around him are speaking based only on what they see, and this is what the papers are going by.

Just read this morning that David is not going to play. He has not completely recovered from the virus; in fact, he's presenting additional symptoms that are causes for alarm at this time.

Please read these links:

His situation has gotten worse as of late. Hope he can recover in time for the US hardcourt season.

It sounds like it's getting worse, it could present problems for the start of the US hardcourt season.

I'm disappointed that he won't be able to play the DC tie, he seemed really intent on playing it. Maybe in hindsight, that he felt confident of playing even in this condition shows just how much he wanted to play it.

Is the article saying that Del Potro will be the replacement or that Vasquez will call him to ask? I'm confused.

Del Potro ruled himself out of this tie because of the surface change. However, Vasquez is considering using Chucho, in addition to Monaco or Chela, should the situation demand it.
