Well, I considered doubles as a lost cause anyway.

Yeah, that was a good shot returning the smash.

Have to say it was a bit of an expected result. I guess, even though David blew the third set TB terribly, that overall Lopez-Verdasco were the better team anyway.

Me too. But I thought they'd win the singles matches...

Re: Davis Cup 2008 final - leading Argentina's quest to win their first DC

I wanna stay positive too...anything can happen tomorrow.
It may look like mission impossible for Argentina tomorrow, but every one expected the same for Spain before the tie and look where they are now. So let's stay positive

I was actually surprised before the tie when David said they think the weak link in the Spanish team was the doubles, because I thought the opposite, and here he was proven wrong. Props to Lopez

I don't like their chances for tomorrow, unless if Del Potro recovers from his injury and is able to play without pain.

At least, he was sitting there with the rest of the team, looking quite cheerful. So perhaps it wasn't so bad, after all.

It really did not look serious injury to me I think that he was even faking it a bit to explain the loss.

The newspapers say that he's had a "contraction", but there's no muscular injury. The team doctors get quoted saying the usual stuff: we'll do everything in our power to make sure he can play today, further tests have yet to be done, etc.
Apparently, they'll make the decision tomorrow.

Re: Davis Cup 2008 final - leading Argentina's quest to win their first DC

Ah well David and Gordo had their chances in that 3rd set, but congrats to Lalo and Nando for a deserved victory. Lalo came into this tie on the back of a very encouraging indoor season on the tour, and he has shone in his 2 appearances so far this weekend. Nando grew in stature at the match progressed. David and Gordo made far too many sloppy errors, especially at the net, and they were often disappointing on return.
However let's move on, and hopefully there is good news regarding Del Potro tomorrow.
On the subject of Lucas, I do think that Mancini should have picked him, but hey hindsight is a wonderful thing. I know that it wasn't known whether David would be playing in today's doubles rubber until the end of play yesterday, However Lucas has a wealth of doubles experience, and has played 3 Davis Cup rubbers and a handful of tournaments alongside Gordo in the past, including a victory over Corretja/Costa at Malaga 2003. And of course he has formed a very dynamic partnership with David over the years, and they linked up together recently at Madrid and Bercy. Ah well there's no me point me complaining about this now. I'm still hopeful that Argentina can somehow pull this off.

Re: Davis Cup 2008 final - leading Argentina's quest to win their first DC

OK I've just seen the news on GM about Chucho being scheduled to face Verdasco in tomorrow's 4th rubber. Let's hope for a Chucho masterclass tomorrow if he is called into action . I'm trying to stay at optimistic as possible .
Of course there are many contrasting reports circulating tomorrow, and at this moment in time it isn't 100% confirmed that Del Potro definately won't be able to play tomorrow.
Unfortunately Sanchez was never going to be stupid enough to pick Ferru tomorrow instead of Nando.

Re: Davis Cup 2008 final - leading Argentina's quest to win their first DC

Is the news about Acasuso playing tomorrow confirmed?! best of luck to him, that's the best Mancini can do if Del Potro is not well anyway, no one can blame him.

I remember Acasuso playing a good match against Safin in the 2006 final, Safin was just too much for him at the time. If he doesn't win tomorrow, the poor guy will be haunted by davis cup nightmares for the rest of his life, for being responsible for losing the decisive match twice

Hm, I think this is a propaganda war, as it happens a lot in DC and that Del Potro is going to play tomorrow.
