Re: The Olympics

Good Job, David! Hope his injury is under control and he's not hurting. Anyone see him play - how's he playing? Although with him things can change in an instant so guess it really doesn't matter...

Monfils next? I like most of the French players but not Monfils very much and its David here so, VAMOS David!

Re: The Olympics

Good job there, now on to take out Monfils. We'll just have to wait and see I guess, with these two anything is possible.

Vamos David and Juan Carlos

Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid it will never truely begin.

Re: The Olympics

Really hoping to see David play finally against Monfils. In some way, it's been kind of good that he hasn't been on a televised court from a selfish point of view because I haven't been able to watch much tennis at all this week (like the least I've ever watched in ages!). Obviously I can't predict at all how things will go when I haven't seen him play.

David has played Monfils before-in the 2006 FO, in fact, where David prevailed in four.

Sorry, that was just my post being worded badly. I meant I was hoping to finally catch David play this Olympics, not play against Monfils.

I watched that match against Monfils at the French Open in 2007. It was exciting to follow (great atmosphere and drama probably only because of the home crowd) but the tennis was a bit boring. David was playing too defensively and there were some ugly dropshots but most of the time they didn't need to be good - I remember him getting away with one in the fourth set TB by following it up with a very nice lob. Monfils served extremely well and I remember David's excellent clutch play in that fourth set tie-break, that drop volley on the stretch. You would think that maybe David would like playing against Monfils on paper because he stands so far behind the baseline so that allows David to use the angles well, but I'm not sure whether he will do that because he didn't the last time they played.

Re: The Olympics

Monfils is serving for the set 4-5*, but I think if David is fit enough, he will win this in 3. He's got the game, but his serve is ....

Re: The Olympics

Monfils won the first set 6-4. Poor serving cost David that final service break to lose the set and Monfils has been jumping on his second serve. His groundstrokes look okay for the most part but he has thrown in some consecutive errors at times that have put him in trouble.

Re: The Olympics

Monfils is serving very well now and has been cruising on his last couple of games.
