Last year the people behind me were making fun of me were continually glancing froms side to side when watching a match
What did they think, that spectators shouldn't bother looking at what's going on?
I said this on KOC, and I really don't like the slowed down surface at Wimbledon, especially having seen some of the warm-up tournaments in comparison. I would like to see the court speed up to something like Queen's which is not fast at all, but gives the opportunity for grass court specialists to do well there.
I don't have a huge preference for any of the Grand Slams, although last year I warmed to the US Open. Usually I just end up getting drawn to whichever tournament produces good matches and and which attracts good crowds. I think all Grand Slams get good crowds except for Wimbledon. Having watched a lot of the matches on live streaming at Wimbledon last year, the crowd atmosphere at Wimbledon has to be by far the worst. Far too quiet and nowhere near enthusiastic enough. I never realized that the Australian Open had such a carnival atmosphere until recently when I saw coverage of the outside courts. I desperately want to go there (for the first time) next year since I finally have enough money but I'm not sure if I can make that happen in terms of being able to get time off.
In theory, the natural surfaces are more interesting but there seem to be more great matches on the hardcourts. Last year the number of quality matches at the French Open was severely lacking. Hopefully that won't be the case this year.
Television coverage for the French Open is awful and I'm hoping that there will be some good live streaming. I wish all of the Grand Slams would follow Wimbledon and introduce paid live streaming, but three years since Wimbledon started it and the other Grand Slams still haven't followed at least in providing it worldwide.
