David the gladiator to battle it out near the Colosseum. Can he feel at home in Rome?

So the Eternal City is the next stop in David's European tour. He has performed well at Roma in the past, finishing as a runner-up at the event in 2004, and a semi-finalist in his last outing there in 2006. Hopefully he can put in another strong showing at the Foro Italico this time. He has a grand total of zero points to defend this upcoming week, as last year he gave the event a miss so that he could get some treatment on his back, and more importantly attend the Argentinean stage of the World Rally Championship in Córdoba.

Well, getting Almagro in the second round is a tough draw obviously so I won't look any further than that. I guess we'll see what happens. Last time they played in Acapulco, David was having all sorts of problems returning Almagro's serve.

David was convincingly beaten by Almagro in that Acapulco. If Mucho takes out Cipolla in the his opener as expected, David is going to have his work cut out for him in the 2nd set.

Best of luck to David this week.

Won't have time to watch any matches. Luckily enough for me, your detailed reports are excellent. Looking forward to reading them next weekend.

GOOD LUCK David. We don't know which David will play Almagro. If he is 100% fit and motivated, it will be an exciting and tight match.David usually plays his best matches in clay season in Rome.He has been runner up here and also reached Semi final 2 years ago.I am optimistic.

Nalbandian - Tsonga

It's going to be an extremely difficult task for David against Mucho. Hopefully he can make significant in-roads into the Almagro serve this time, as he struggled in the returning department at Acapulco.

Almagro is a tough draw...so no expectations here. Hopefully he plays a good match. That's really all I care about, to see him make an effort. Best of luck to him this week!

Vamos David and Juan Carlos

Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid it will never truely begin.

Bring it on as they say, curious fact both of them are Italian speakers as well.

It will be tough, but that's the way it should be and hope Nalle has learned some lessons and for him to win, he has to get Mucho moving, because as good as "el cabezon's strokes are, his footwork is ordinary.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Machado wins 6-2 6-1

The crosscourt backhand to backhand exchanges tomorrow should be good.
Yes Almagro footwork is very lazy, and David needs to punish him for that. It will be interesting to see how David handles facing one of best and most effective serves on the tour on clay this time. El Cabezon's kicker can be very difficult to deal with on this surface.
