Forget Prince Albert II, David is the real royalty at the millionaires' playground

It won't be long until the Monte-Carlo draw is made, and hopefully David can make a positive start to his European claycourt season campaign this week.
His best showing in 5 previous appearances at this event, came in 2004 when he reached the QF stage. Last year a back injury forced to retire from his 2nd round match against Kolhschreiber.

One of the best thread titles ever.

This is the first event of a three week stretch of tournaments for David: Monte Carlo, then Barcelona and Rome so there should be plenty for us to follow in the upcoming weeks. I hope we get to see some good tennis here.

Yes the next 3 weeks are going to be hectic, and I'm really looking forward to it.
Monte-Carlo, Barcelona and Rome are all fantastic events (I wish I was incredibly wealthy, and could afford to go on a European tennis tour at this stage of the season) and very prestigious ones at that.

Re: Forget Prince Albert II, David is the real royalty at the millionaires' playgroun

The draw is out. I'll let Scott put it up.

David is scheduled to play against either Haas or a qualifier. I'm surprised Haas is playing, he usually chooses to skip Monte Carlo after playing Houston. Haas currently holds a 3-0 head-to-head record over David including a win in Munich in 2002 on the clay.

The little section of the draw that contains Robredo, Wawrinka, Stepanek and Soderling looks very strong - I have no idea who will get out of that. David will meet the winner of that section in the 3rd round if he wins his first match.

Haas is not exactly in good form and the qualie draw isn't as strong as it has been in previous years.

Not sure how Nalbandian will play. I think if anything he will be better in Barcelona and Rome than here.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

It's safe to say that David got the most difficult and intriguing 1/8 of the draw. We don't even know if Haas is his second round opponent.
Let's wait and see the allocation of the qualifiers in the MD.

Scott, the thread's title has already proved a success and may well start a trend.

Same here.

Yes I wouldn't be that surprised if Haas to the qualifier.

I'm going to hold fire and avoid commenting too much until I know who David will face in the 2nd round.
He has 35 ranking points to defend from last year, and it would be nice if he could gain some this week.

I thought David's draw was tough, but it's masters series, so anything can happen.
Allez David!!

That's a pretty tough draw. Let's just wait and see what happens. I'm looking forward to the coming tennisweeks. I like the clayseason so let the fun begin. Vamos David!

PS: Love the thread title.

Vamos David and Juan Carlos

Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid it will never truely begin.

Re: Forget Prince Albert II, David is the real royalty at the millionaires' playgroun

If David has recovered of injury, I am not that worry regarding his results on clay so far in this season. After Almagro I think David has the best win-loss record on clay in 2008.If Haas wins Qualifier, it is a good time for David to revenge last 3 defeats against Haas. But in R16 it will be a tough match against either Soderling or Robredo or even Wawrinka.Best wishes for David

Nalbandian - Tsonga

I luuuurve this title, quite inspired eh Scott? LOL.

haven't REALLY looked at the draw because I am still in Estoril mood & can't be bothered with it yet but, good luck to him anyway. I am expecting good & big things. Probably am asking too much but I have to be honest, he can do it. So yeah, I am expecting something ...

Bring it at last Nalbandian, puhleeze.
