Let's hope David can slice and dice his opponents at the home of Miami Vice

The Miami draw will be made later today, so I hope it's OK for me to start a thread for the event.
Apart from his SF appearance in 2006, David's record at Key Biscayne isn't exactly impressive, and he lost to Nieminen in the 3rd round there last year. Hopefully he will fare better than that this year, and gain some more ranking points.

Re: Let's hope David can slice and dice his opponents at the home of Miami Vice

At the beginning I hope he draws Ferrer(No.4).
(Or they use last week ranking, that's Davydenko, I don't exactly know)
So the dream semifinal line-up can possibly happen(No.1,2,3,7)
But somehow I feel if that's the case,
Nalby is exactly in the situation that people expect him advance to SF.
I don't know that's good or bad for him.
Sometimes Nalby is bored at the early rounds in a tour,
he may struggle to a low-rank player.
But once he gets through it,
he gets excited when meeting the very best players in the world.
Because he has a chance to prove that HE BELONGS THEM.
So if he should meet quality players in early rounds,
I think that can go either way, good or bad.
Last year's road to Madrid title is hard, and he made it.

Overall, I think I will be OK with ANY kind of draw for him.
After all, for him everything is possible, everything is unpredictable.

Wish him all the best.

The draw looks OK to me. Unfortunately I can't copy and paste it in a nice manner so I'll type out the bottom quarter of the draw. Getting Stepanek again in a potential third round is annoying.

Second round play for the bottom half will be starting on Friday so no coverage anywhere for that.

[7] Nalbandian v BYE
Hernandez v Malisse
[WC] Kuerten v Grosjean
BYE v [27] Stepanek

[23] Ljubicic v BYE
Santoro v Bjorkman
Gicquel v Seppi
BYE v [9] Blake

[16] Mathieu v BYE
Cilic v Vliegen
Mahut v Mayer
BYE v [20] Moya

[25] Nieminen v BYE
Kiefer v Haas
Roitman v QUALIFIER
BYE v [2] Nadal

Thanks for posting the draw, Krystle.

I agree. Assuming he gets past Stepanek, he plays most probably Blake in the 4th round.

Good luck, David.

I just noticed that Ljubicic has a 4-1 head-to-head record over Blake, thanks to Deathless Mortal commenting that it was a good draw for Ljubo. On the other hand, he does struggle a bit against Santoro.

If Nalbi win in 4th round

I think he will win the championship, such as the Madrid 2007

It's a decent draw but anything can happen with this man. Hopefully he plays some good tennis. If he does then we should be in for a fun ride.

Vamos David and Juan Carlos

Ouch Thunderlips is close to David in the draw again. That will be a tough contest for him if it was to happen.
David has only progressed beyond R3 at this event once, in 2006. Hopefully he can do so again this year.

I hope he doesn't give me heart attack in early rounds.

Sexylips again, gosh.
Anyway, it's not a terrible draw - so good luck, David.

yes, sexylips again

How will David decide to play this tournament?????

to be, or not to be? determined or annoyed (in nearly every case)?

Re: Let's hope David can slice and dice his opponents at the home of Miami Vice

David's 2nd round opponent will be Malisse, who just handed 2 breadsticks to Hernandez.
David's leads their head to head 4-0, with their most recent match coming in the 2nd round at Flushing Meadows last year. Of course their 5 set 2002 Wimbledon SF tussle will be the most remembered out of their previous encounters. Hopefully David will be able to maintain his unbeaten record against the X-Man when they meet on Friday.
