The 'Martin Jaite' Appreciation Thread!

Thanks to Martin for the rebirth of Nalbandian

Just roughly searched the web and know that the guy is a great clay court player. Is he a good server? I wonder how he has improved David that much on serve...

btw, since he's a good clay courter, he should be able to help David a lot on clay. Also consider that Rafa is a bad match up for David. Does that mean a fit Dave has a good chance to win next year's RG ?

Stealing my ideas from the Gaudio forum, hehe.

He is a good and knowledgeable man.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Hey,GWH, I see somewhere that you mentioned Martin used to be Gaudio's
coach, so that explains how well he could help with Dave on clay, right?

Um DUHHHH.

Nah im just teasing, yes he does have a great chance. Remember what davydenko did this year in Rome, I have little doubt hes going to beat rafa next year on clay (sadly.... and even if he doesnt he will completley destroy him for his next match), Rg is a different story but win or lose he will go to 5 sets for sure or extremley tough 4 sets. The thing is, Davydenko choked in rome, Nalby wont, Just like Davydenko the high topspin shots are nearly useless against him on both wings (unless the ball is very deep.

I really think Nalby will do what federer never could, beat Rafa on clay when hes in good form, and possibly, At RG.

But it will be EXTREMLEY physically demanding, it will be physically tougher than beating anyone else on any other surface. Ok im talking to much

About the serve, the reason he helped him so much is by putting nalbys confidence in the topspin/kick serve (as you would expect a clay courter to do). And thats made a dramatic improvement on second serves, he just looks more confident when hitting second serves, (remember 47% against Federer 44% against gasguet still won straight sets with only a little bit of a choke making him lose serve). Guys arent winning many second serve points cos they just cant take advantage of it, his first serve really hasnt changed a whole lot, but its struck with more confidence, the kind of Confidence sampras had when hitting first and second serves cos he knew that he could put so much spin on the ball that he would rarely ever miss.

And take note of the amount of kick serves nalby uses as first serves, its not always the big high kicker, alot of the time its the kind of serve that creates a short angle and bounces fast towards the side or back wall (its something federer used alot this year in particular), nalby rarely uses the flat serves. And i like the confidence in his high ball toss, hes moving forward and taking it high in the air and getting plenty of net clearance.

It's true Rafa will be tough to beat at RG. He will fight to death to defend his clay kingdom. If Nalby wins,it should be over Rafa's dead body. But Nalby still has the advantage on the match up. If he keeps his confidence,he should get the job done finally.

True. He should win in SS more often to save his stamina. Only hope he doesn't draw Ferrer on the course to the final. No way he could beat Ferrer in straights.

Great insight. Hope he maintains his confidence and have a good run at AO and FO 2008.
