it seems that he changed his mind, maybe because of Del Po's decision not to play Davis cup

anyway it becomes an emergency for alternates : if he's not out when the qualies draw is made, only lucky losers will be considered.

Nalbandian is now out, just in time to let Kuku in.

Kuku seems to be recovered from his hip injury then or just wants to get the first round prize money

Mahut will not play the Aus open.

yes but as Smucav and others had noted, he had not withdrawn officially until yesterday (that is adviced the Australian open that he withdrew), which was the final deadline to let Kuku get in. If Nalby had not sent his withdrawal announcement on time yesterday, Kuku could not have got in and there should have been a lucky-loser.

Then he should have removed his name from the doubles entry list.

Monaco (wrist) and Isner (knee) are in doubt, and maybe in a lesser extent Nishikori (knee), Stepanek (shoulder), Tipsarevic (wrist), and Simon (neck).

yes, players who withdraw now will be replaced by lucky-losers, we will know the potential lucky-loser list after the qualies are finished.

http://espn.go.com/tennis/aus13/stor...n-injured-knee

isner withdraws so to be replaced by LL

interesting if he wd a few days ago his buddy mahut would have had a chance if mahuts knee was up to it

so benneteau will be seeded and several players benefit by moving up for example 17 to 16 for i believe nishikori, etc

Why is this considering the MD isn't out yet?

Re: Australian Open Entry List/Fact Sheet (updated January 8, 2013)

It would destroy the qualifying somehow when a player is moving to MD another can get a walkover to last round or even the MD.
