Re: Bernard's Grasscourt Season 2012

Isn't Goffin the "wunderkid" who almost beat Fed at RG

Yeah the only reason i think Tomic will make 4th round so easy is because of his first round match, he should win easily and that will give him some confidence coming into the next few matches!

Re: Bernard's Grasscourt Season 2012

Yeah, Goffin had a wonder run at RG, qualifying and then bowing out to Federer. Hardly "almost" beat RF though, but he did get a set off Roger on the clay. Not sure of his grass court credentials.
IMO Tomic has got a very friendly, winnable draw. He could hardly have asked for better. He should get through to the 3rd round without much fuss and then has a real chance against an ageing Fish, who has not had much match play lately.
Will be good to watch.

Re: Bernard's Grasscourt Season 2012

As Wimbledon starts, Bernie's live ranking has dropped to 44. Through Australian Open and lots of 2nd rounds and a few Quarters, he has given himself a good foundation in the ranking I would say.

Bernard Tomic: "I played good"

Goffin lost to Paire 1 and 4 in 's-Hertogenbosch this week and last year he lost in the final round of Wimbledon qualies...

Re: Bernard's Grasscourt Season 2012

If tomic does find his form he has a great opportunity to go far again in Wimbledon. Fish coming back from illness and poor form, tsonga is a bad match up but he has an apparent finger injury lately. And out of all top 4 to vs...I think he has a better chance against nadal compared to Murray or federer, especially on grass. Fingers crossed he finds his form

Bernard Tomic
Grigor Dimitrov
Richard Gasquet
Nick Kyrgios

Re: Bernard's Grasscourt Season 2012

The failure to close out services breaks and matches suggests it could actually the right mental space or mindset that he needs to 'find' rather than 'form'. A positive first match may be critical.

Re: Bernard's Grasscourt Season 2012

I actually am a bit too... More on the mental side like said above. But I think it's good because there's a little pressure, and we've seen he tends to have more difficulty with those lower ranked players he's expected to beat.

Re: Bernard's Grasscourt Season 2012

Back during the April DC tie there were quotes from Bernard (and Rafter) about needing to play better against players he's expected to beat, yet he comes into Wimbledon with his last 4 losses being to lower ranked players. In two of those matches he was up and failed to close out the match. So, we'll see if this sort of play continues.

I saw that several of the tennis news sites/blogs have this match as one of the first round matches to watch.
