Re: Bernard on the clay 2012

Not the best play after he failed to break on the 3 chances he had in Giraldo's first service game.

6-4 Giraldo first set

Re: Bernard on the clay 2012

giraldo now serving for the match....its too bad that all it takes is one topspin ball on clay to put the ball out of tomics ideal hitting zone making him hit his shots so much less effectively....hopefully at next years RG he'll be able to put away these sub-par clay courters...

Now for Bernard, the hot time, a lot points to defend on the grass.

Report from Aussie press:

Quote:
Instead the teenage Wimbledon quarter-finalist will presumably head to the practice courts to iron out worrying kinks in his backhand before launching his grasscourt campaign next month.

The 19-year-old’s double-fisted wing completely broke down, so alarmingly in fact that a frustrated Tomic at one stage - after one particular shot barely made it halfway up the net - fiddled with his racquet strings and asked them: ‘Why?“

Re: Bernard on the clay 2012

Looking at those stats, there is a lot to be said for just starting the point on clay and not going for too much on that 1st serve. Giraldo at 80% first serves and winning 75% of them, is a big difference to 63% (decent) but only winning 59%. Better ratio of winners to u/f's too.

Giraldo wasnt going for anything on his serves aswell though. the only reason he had such good percentages on the first serve is because he ran straight around to the forehand on any return he could to employ his typical short angled shots to force bernie out wide

Re: Bernard on the clay 2012

So, Bernard will be back on the clay next week in Stuttgart as the #3 seed (with a bye R1). He also entered doubles with Stebe.

Will be interesting to see how he does after the Wimbledon disappointment...

Atleast he got a bye....I don't expect him to achieve anything untill closer to the end of the year, gonna take him a while to get his head and training straightened out and going where it needs to go IMO I would like to be proven wrong though
Who's top seeds at stuttgart btw?

Bernard Tomic
Grigor Dimitrov
Richard Gasquet
Nick Kyrgios
