Good decision from Carlos! He was great on grass at the DC final last year! I hope he can go far at Wimby!

Re: on the road to Wimbledon

Thanks for that info, I was wondering if Carlos was playing any grass warmups... Alex was invited to Stoke Poges last yr but couldn't go cos of his wife having the baby so early.

Carlos had a great win over Flip in DC Final!

Re: on the road to Wimbledon

I never understood why he didn't go to Wimbledon, his game is pretty similar to Roddick's, who has always done well there (big serve, forehand).

So.....GOOD LUCK!

Wonder why he always seems uncomfortable on grass. He played that Philipo match well.

Re: on the road to Wimbledon

It's part of the old attitude of Spanish players... but fortunately now the younger players want to win on all surfaces incl grass... not that Carlos hasn't won on hardcourts, he has, as has Corretja!

So, vamos, Espanoles en Wimby!!

Hopp Rogi! Go Gonzo! Allez Gasquet!

Re: on the road to Wimbledon

it is not grass Moya doesn't like , but he needs a break after the claycourt season, just before the summer tournements started. If you looked in the past, he played when he was young at wimby, than he had some injury problems so he took a break and now he is a bit older, his body needs from time to time some rest so he does.

Carlos' game is not that similar to Roddick's!!! They both are the type that have the big serve and big forehand but Carlos' game is more fluid and natural. More of a skill and variety. More clay court touches to it.

Re: on the road to Wimbledon

Claudine, you're right, having two contrasting surface slams so close together is ridiculous -- I don't blame any player for skipping Wimby... besides, there are so few grass tourneys to practise on before Wimby -- hardly any adjustment time fr clay to grass. It's as if they want the "claycourters" to skip Wimby... if that's what they want, they've got it... honestly!

Hope Carlos is OK... it's crap that there are hardly any Spaniards at Wimby this yr and most of them are either ill or injured or haven't played much or just plain crap on grass [exc Corretja of course hee hee!].
