Re: Paris AMS & London WTF 2013 - A quest for immortality against the odds!

Thank you Foxy for openning thread for Paris and London I hope you will be the lucky one
The draw in Paris is very tough. I really think that apart from semis, Rafa couldn't have had harder draw. The combination of Tursunov, Janowicz and Tsonga in a row seems impossible to beat. It also makes me sad, coz as a Pole I would love Janowicz to do well again at Bercy. But ofcourse Nadal is my priority.
On the other hand losing early at Bercy with Djokovic fighting in this tournament till the final might be good for Rafa.
To me Rafa has 2 targets for the remaining 2 events. A smaller one which is Year End No. 1 and the huge one which is winning WTF. I really hope that Rafa can acomplish at least the smaller one. QF at Bercy and then rest with practice in London might really do him good.
I'm very excited about these 2 tournaments. I know that I shouldn't ask for too much after what Nadal did this year. But somehow I want this season to be perfect and the best in the history. To make it this good Rafa needs to win WTF. I won't be angry at him if he fails to do it, but I will be slightly dissapointed...
Rafa, we are all with you, supporting you as much as we can
Vamos Rafa!

Re: Paris AMS & London WTF 2013 - A quest for immortality against the odds!

Foxy deserves to be the lucky one.

I am loling over these Gasquet quotes.

Quote:

Gasquet on Nadal in l'Equipe: "It would do me good to beat him at least once before I'm done with tennis".

"He does respect me but he always wins our matches in 2 or 3 sets".

"It really motivates me because I find it very annoying/tiring not to be able to beat him"

"In 5 or 6 years, he will be considered as the GOAT in my opinion and will probably break Federer's slam record".

Re: Paris AMS & London WTF 2013 - A quest for immortality against the odds!

In order to secure number 1 spot Rafa needs to reach semis in Paris and win 3 matches in the WTF groups even if Djokovic wins Paris, London and the 2 Davis Cup matches of his.

That seems like quite a lot. Djokovic better get Del Potro in his WTF group and maybe Del Potro can also do Rafa a favour in Paris.

Foxy, where did you take that calculation from? Rafa needs more than 665 points to secure Year End No. 1. So to me Rafa needs:
Final in Paris and one win at WTF (800 points) or
Semis in Paris and 2 wins at WTF (760 points) or
3rd round in Paris and 3 wins at WTF (690 points)

I'm assuming maybe the penalty for missing Basel is being counted i.e, he won't get 150 points from Vina Del Mar? Although that isn't confirmed yet - we won't know till next week's rankings come out whether those 150 points have been taken away from the rankings for this year...

Yes, I count the point penalty. He needs 815 points. Hopefully next week the situation will be more clear about these questionable points.
