Re: Biting into the Big Apple - US Open 2013!

The Federer quarterfinal, if it happens, is going to be much, much more difficult than the Cincy one, i feel. Federer will leave it there on court-- his pride won't allow it to be a routine even if his body crumbles. Other than than, Isner will be tricky, it is lottery with that booming serve of his, and he will come to avenge Cincinnati Final loss. Nadal will also be keen not to drop the ball against Davydenko (5-6 in H2H).If Rafa manages it to the final, i am liking his chances to come through. He will get a beaten up Nole/Delpo/Murray..

Re: Biting into the Big Apple - US Open 2013!

This a tricky but not really difficult draw. Guys like Verdasco, Davydenko are scary opponents, but there is good chance they get eliminated early and same with Federer. However I prefer this over Novak or Murray's draw because their QF and SF would have been much tougher.

Re: Biting into the Big Apple - US Open 2013!

I'm more worried about earlier matches than Roger and beyond, I doubt Roger can beat Rafa over 5 sets now.

Re: Biting into the Big Apple - US Open 2013!

I am mostly worried about Isner and less about Federer. I am glad Rafa will have a chance to play Davydenko so he can even the H2H matches. I feel pretty much optimistic. It is a very good thing Djoko and Murray are in the same half...

Re: Biting into the Big Apple - US Open 2013!

Uhhh, I need to study the draw more thoroughly. But first off I don't like him possibly playing Pospisil in the 2nd round, I so liked the kid in Montreal.
Despite his GS record this year I won't be terribly upset should he get upset early.

Re: Biting into the Big Apple - US Open 2013!

Quick analyssis of the draw:
SF: That's the most important thing. We are very lucky that Murray is with Djokovic. Ferrer is sooo much easier (although, he won't reach SF)
QF: I think only Gasquet and Berdych would be easier. Fed and Delpo was the same danger for me. Although PileDrive said above it will be much more difficult this time against Federer, I don't really agree. Playing best of 5 will always be advantage for Rafa. Federer didn't even have enough in his tank for 2 sets of the same high level in Cincy. Look how bad he was in 5th set against Murray in AO final this year. Nowadays Federer is much weaker in best of 5.
R4: Isner might be very tough, but he really might lose to Monfils in R2. Remember his run in RG? Monfils can still play great tennis. Even if it is Isner, it will be really tough for him to win 3 tiebreaks.
R3: Could have been much more difficuld with Gulbis or Dimitrov. Verdasco/Dodig/Dacydenko will be ok for Rafa. I think I prefer Verdasco from that trio.
R2: This is the one I am really scared. Big hitter in early round. I also like Pospisil very much, but I hope maybe qualifier could beat him. I'm a bit afraid Rafa could have problems against him, but again playing best of 5 is much tougher for a young guy to beat top players.
R1: Harrison won't be that easy oponnent as some may think. He will give Rafa a trouble- that's for sure. But thank God he is not a big hitter. If Rafa plays agressive, should be no problem.

Guys, overall it's not such a bad draw. If Rafa beats Pospisil, Isner and Federer, he might have quite an easy SF and be ready for huge final. Who knows, I can really imagine Delpo taking out Nole and Birdman beating Murray. Probably the most important will be the QF.
I can't wait for Rafa's first match! Vamos Rafa!

Rafa! Rafa! Rafa!

Epic movies, like brokeback mountain, are seldom found in the industry or worthy for the mainstream viewer. As often as I have watched the clips of this movie, I always find something more to it. For one, the gay stuff doesn't enter the picture for me, only the dimension of the highest love I have ever witnessed in life or on film.

Re: Biting into the Big Apple - US Open 2013!

I agree with shawshank, this draw is manageable. Some potentially tricky first week matches where I expect Rafa to lose some sets but if his form continues I can't see any one of them getting 3 sets, hopefully that'll play him into full form. Federer is an ok QF opponent, of course he's always capable of pulling off something miraculous but he played about as well as he can these days in Cinci and only took one set, so Im optimistic. Main things is Nole, Murray and Delpo are ALL in one half (with Tomas a threat to all). Boy am I glad he went all out last week to get that #2 seeding now

Re: Biting into the Big Apple - US Open 2013!

I think Rafa's draw is decent. Players like Isner especially, and Federer could trouble him, but to beat him 5 sets, something would have to be off with him. Novak, in the final is the one person that can beat him, no matter the circumstances, obviously. He has a rough one to the final, though.

Re: Biting into the Big Apple - US Open 2013!

The draw doesn't really mean much, with a tough draw dangerous opponents can lose before and with an easy draw one can f**k it all up by oneself.

Re: Biting into the Big Apple - US Open 2013!

Fun fact: yesterday during draw ceremony Rafa was practicing on the court when he was informed that his first rival will be Harrison. Guess who was Rafa practicing with at that moment...? Harrison!
