Re: Rafa's Indian Wells Cheering Squad

sorry to disappoint you guys but I don't think Rafa's going to play Indian Wells...apparently he needs to rest and will reappear in Miami. I read this in another forum and the person just said "Rafa said this to the Spanish press"...so I can't give you a more accurate source. but if I find something more exact, I'll post it here...or if someone else does, please do so as well!

ok...just found it lol

JOAN SOLSONA. Enviado especial a Bratislava (Eslovaquia)

Re: Rafa's Indian Wells Cheering Squad

I've translated it for the non-Spanish speakers:

THE MANACORIAN WITHDRAWS FROM INDIAN WELLS AFTER A MONTH WITHOUT A BREAK

Rafael Nadal has competed in 6 tournaments this year, including the Davis Cup. His consistency in results, with 2 consecutive titles in the South American clay season has lifted him to #6 in the Champions Race with 136 points. Nadal landed in Bratislava last Monday without resting for 21 days, during which he participated in the ATP tournaments in Buenos Aires, Brazil and Acapulco. After 13 singles matches and 3 doubles matches, his body has said "enough!". The Manacorian is physically drained after not having had a rest last month, travelling and time differences...

He already knew that going to Bratislava could take its toll on him, but Nadal has always maintained that Davis Cup is a priority, even though it's going to cost him not going to Indian Wells (first masters series of the year that begins this Friday) because of his muscular problems. I need to rest and I'm going to take a few days off to prepare for the Miami tournament. Looking back on the tie against Slovakia, they were the better team, but the court was not done according to the rules. I don't understand why the ITF is inflexible with unimportant things and then they don't control the court surface, which is fundamental for the result" indicated the Majorcan yesterday.

Ferrero and Robredo

Rafa is an example of a player dedicated to the "salad bowl" tournament. The Spanish captains know it and that's why they consider him a leader. Jordi Arrese and Juan Avendaño yesterday remembered the 2 absentees in Bratislava, that is, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Tommy Robredo. "When Spain loses, all the players lose. Ferrero and Robredo included" said Avendaño. "To return permanently to the team, it's them who have to want to play. Ferrero wanted to concentrate on improving his ranking and Tommy excused himself because of his shoulder", explained Arrese

Hey, i wrote it before I saw Emily's translation. So I was right.
yes you're right...they're quite pissed off at JC and Tommy...here's some more from another article with some of Jordi's comments:

Jordi Arrese: "We're confident of staying in the World Group." Asked about the players the G2 would count on, he discounted the fact that Carlos Moyà would change his plans of not playing Davis Cup this year, and regarding the absentees Juan Carlos Ferrero and Tommy Robredo, he stated that "to come back, they are the ones who have to want to play", reminding that for the Slovakia tie, "Ferrero said he wanted to concentrate on getting his singles career back on track and Robredo gave problems in his right shoulder as his reason, although last week he got to the semifinals in Dubai. We are not the ones who should respond to this issue"

Similarly, Juan Avendaño highlighted that "Juan Carlos and Tommy have also lost. All of Spanish tennis has lost. We brought the best team we could here"
