Re: European clay court season 2013

Novak too good. Losing game at 2-5 in 1st set & failing from up a break twice in second set - ouch. Number one ended the clay consecutive streak in '07, number one ends his MC streak, there's nothing to be embarrassed about here! Novak was always going to be the toughest opponent after the months out. The proud Serb singing his national anthem - cute. Paying Serbian taxes I imagine would be more appreciated but I digress. Where's the queue for a dodgy ankle?

Re: European clay court season 2013

Not a good day for Rafa, but he showed so much class on court after! Non-stop smiling and he was genuinely happy for Nole. And I think he's a lil relieved that the pressure is off him for the years to come that he's not 'always' gonna be the favorite here!

As I have said many times, most of the time to Mimi, Rafa will bounce back. Let's hope he doesn't withdraw from Barcelona, a win there will give him a ton of confidence!

Stay strong, Rafa fans

RAFAEL NADAL and GRIGOR DIMITROV

Rafa winning at least one slam in 10 consecutive years is the best achievement in Open Era tennis since Laver won all 4 Grand slam tournaments in the same year!

Yeah, at least he was smiling after the match. He knew he wasn't good enough yet to beat Novak today.

Let's hope he can win Barcelona.

Re: European clay 2013 - on to Barcelona!

I also hope he does not withdraw from Barcelona.

Today, it was his first match against Novak after a long long time. Considering that, I am still upbeat about his chances to bounce back and play a much better match against Novak next time. For a moment, I thought it was going to be a bagel in the first set because Novak was playing rock solid tennis.

I wish Rafa had played better service games at 4-2 and 6-5 in second set. Matches like these will give him the information he needs about the work that needs to be done before RG.

Re: European clay 2013 - on to Barcelona!

I must admit as a Rafa fan it is a tough loss. At the begining of the week I really didn't expect that Novak could be in the final and then play perfect match against Rafa. Maybe I was too confident of this tropy...
To me Rafa played better tennis against Ferrer in Acapulco this year. Matches against Diimtrov and Tsonga showed that it wasn't his top form this week and today he confirmed it. This is little worrying that Rafa was in better form actually in Acapulco and IW than he is now... What is positive, I don't think Nole is in Rafa's head like it was in 2011. I think that Rafa knows that he can still improve till RG, while I think Novak can't play any better. Ofcourse it would be very important to get a win against Nole in Madrid or Rome, but it will be tough. Anyway, the only thing that really scares me a lot is Djokovic having another winning streak over Rafa like it was in 2011. Hopefully, it won't happen.
About Barcelona. We don't know how bad is his back. If it is really bad, then I think he will withdraw from BCN. He knows that his health is priority. If he decides to play, then I can't imagine anything else than a win. I really don't think there is anyone else rather than Djokovic who can beat Rafa on clay. We will start worrying if I'w wrong.
Let's not forget Rafa played 5 tournaments after his injury and won 3 of them, reaching finals in other 2. That's still amazing!
Vamos Rafa!

Re: European clay 2013 - on to Barcelona!

“It is not a tragedy. I lost after eight years without losing here."

“Today, he was better than me… He's a fantastic player. If you are not at 100 per cent, [it] is very difficult to win against these kinds of players. His game is very complete. To win, I have to play my best and I have to bring him to the limit.”

“I think it was a positive week,” said Nadal. “I didn't practice in Mallorca, I just practised here before the tournament. Without much preparation, I was able to play in the final. This week is going to help me be fit for the next weeks.

“I felt for moments in the second set, I played my best tennis of the week. So that's important. When I was doing that, I wasn't far off him. I need more matches to play with this intensity all the time. I need to be completely focused in every moment.

“Hopefully, I can play another great week in Barcelona next week [and] play some matches that will keep helping to put me in the 100 per cent physical conditioning.”

Something I don't understand is why Rafa is telling he didn't practice before MC in Mallorca? First of all he posted many pictures on Facebook of him training in Mallorca and second of all if he didn't train, what was the reason for that? I can't actually see any other reason for that than the knee bothering him again...

He said he didn't practice for two weeks -- That's what I remember. Then he didnt' practice as hard as usual after that.

Re: European clay 2013 - on to Barcelona!

I may be wrong but I think earlier in a presser he said he didn't practice for a week after IW, not 2 weeks but whatever. Not that it matters really, even 1-legged Nole is way better than anyone else atm. I'm not gonna hope for RG at all, this way maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. Should Nole win RG I dunno... I'd just prefer someone else winning, don't see that happening though. *typical MTF overreaction I know*
*Oh and waiting for AJ to come and tell again that Rafa will win RG for sure, this way I know he definitely will not *

Edit: And a note to Rafa - Nole wasn't 100% this week either.

Without question. Ferrer doesn't have that immense backhand though, particularly crosscourt it's devastating.

Deserves repeating!

Is that sarcasm? First two matches in MC were poor because of rustiness, the 'Murray' fiddling/touching his ankle for effect surely?

I said when the final was over in 2012 I didn't think he'd win in 2013 - loathe myself being right. In light of what happened last year to Novak's Grandad, I just thought he'd be more determined than ever. Rome's importance goes up tenfold. Madrid winner denotes Wimbledon winner -

Rafa! Rafa! Rafa!

Epic movies, like brokeback mountain, are seldom found in the industry or worthy for the mainstream viewer. As often as I have watched the clips of this movie, I always find something more to it. For one, the gay stuff doesn't enter the picture for me, only the dimension of the highest love I have ever witnessed in life or on film.
