I went today to a davis Cup match- Spain against Israel in Murcia. I took a place 2 metres behind Rafa during Ferrer's match. I have some nice pictures from the whole day and few memories that I would like to share with you.
When I entered the stadium area, I immidietly bumped into Rafa and Ferru coming back from the court. I'm not sure, but Rafa might have been hitting with David moments earlier. I still had one hour to the first match so I looked around a little.
I must tell tyou that this all Golf Resort looked astonishing. The hotel from which the players had to go to the court was also very nice.
When players left the hotel again for the opening ceremony, there were hundreds of crazy fans trying to get an autograph or a picture mostly with Rafa. Nadal had 3 security guards, and he still almost couldn't reach the stadium. Still, he gave a lot of autographs. Moments later I came in the stadium next to the Spanish players box and I was sure that somebody will move me from his seat, but I managed to stay there for a whole match. I just sat behind Rafa, Nando, Tommy i Feli. It was not that close that I would hear what they were talking about, but I noticed that they were having a lot of fun, talking and loughing from time to time.
About Rafa, he was hilarious when he changed Nike white polo for a shirt of Spanish team, and from that moment on, each game Rafa was keeping his white polo on his knees and changing it position so that it would by lying perfectly. Believe me, it looked very funny coz after each nice point won by Ferru, Rafa stood up to cheer David and then he had to do his ritual with shirt again.
Another thing I noticed is that Rafa has all the time blisters on his hands. He was trying to cure them by bitting them.
Each time Rafa stood up and then he was just about to sit down he couldn't prevent himself from his famous ass touching. It looks funny when he is on the court, but it is even funnier when he is in the crowd.
At one point I noticed that Rafa was really pissed coz during each game break people expected him to stand up and give autographs. They were shouting: "Rafa, Rafa" all the time. One stupid man shouted it so angrilly that Rafa looked back and said with an angry voice: "I said that I will give autographs after the match". I felt sorry for Rafa coz the Spanish fans are really crazy with him. Sometimes they are aven rude when shouting and trying to touch him. They behave as if it was Nadal's responsibility to give them autographs.
Anyway, the atmosphere during boyh matches was really great, with fans chanting players names, with drumm orchestra and a Mexican wave. I can't say a bad word about the crowd in this aspect. They were also respectful to the fans from Israel.
I was so excited throughout all day. It was my second time on a Davis Cup match (first time was Czech Republic against USA in Ostrava) and I must really admit that Davis Cup matches have an unique atmosphere and they are always an unforgetable experience.
What is worth mentioning is that the team spirit in Spanish Armada is really outstanding. They cheer each other a lot, they talk a lot. I could really see that Rafa enjoyed talking with Nando, Robredo and Lopez.
After the second match when Rafa was leaving the court I tried to ask him about his abdominal and his plans regarding Bangkok tournament but there was no way he could hear that.
Believe, even though that Ferru and Ferrero were the heroes of the day, all eyes were on Nadal. I could really see that Rafa was tired in the end of the day.
So that's it. I hope you enjoed my report and pictures. The next one will be from Valencia tournament later this year. This is why I hope Rafa will withdraw from Bangkok and Bejing and then ask for a WC to Valencia
That would be perfect for me!
Thanks and See U!
