The US Davis Cup team was officially announced today, with Mardy Fish, John Isner and the Bryan brothers named to face the French team of Gael Monfils, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Julien Benneteau and Michael Llodra April 6th-8th in Monaco in the World Group quarterfinals.

Captain Jim Courier was on a conference call today to answer questions, so, as I always do, I asked about the practice partners. Courier made it clear that USTA head of men's tennis Jay Berger is responsible for selecting the practice partners, who are Rhyne Williams, Austin Krajicek and Denis Kudla.

Andy Roddick said after the team beat Switzerland without him in February that he wasn't going to ask to be included this time, and Ryan Harrison will not be traveling with the team either, unless there is an injury between now and then. Harrison was named to the Davis Cup team against Colombia in September of 2010 and was also on the team that shut out Switzerland in Switzerland last month.

For a complete transcript of Courier's conference call, see ASAP Sports.

Pretty solid tie. I expect a few good matches and definitely a doubles match worth paying attention to.

Confirmed - @MardyFish now out of @USDavisCupTeam for QF vs #France in #MonteCarlo. Replaced by Ryan Harrison. #Monfils out for FRA
Prefer Ryan not playing, but good luck.

Re: World Group quarterfinal: USA at France (April 6-8, 2012)

I think it's logic that Simon replaced Monfils. I think Gilles must have been in the team for play secnd singles since the beginning. Monfils is often injured and not play a lot recently. Simon had 1/4 at Indian Wells and 1/8e in Miami and has already play on clay this season. He must pay singles with Tsonga. For doubles, i would have try new association perhaps Mahut-Roger Vasselin who ha two titles this year, or mix one of tehm with Llodra.
For USA, ISner is the firts choice and with the injury of Fish, Harrison is a legitime choice. He improved a lot since the beginning of season and he is so bad on clay.

I don't think Ryan is that bad on clay. He did get a set off Soderling last year at the French Open. He moves and slides pretty well on that surface, and actually grew up playing on clay in Louisiana.
